Title: Had an AWESOME Galaga weekend!!!
Post by: AGGIEZ on July 03, 2004, 10:07:58 pm
Couple of old friends came over to the lakehouse this weekend and were blown away at my cocktail cab. They were even more stoked when they found out it had 4,000 games including Galaga. I had never really played Galaga all that much as a kid and never really appreciated how fun the game is until this weekend. We had a great time having tournaments and playing all of the different versions. I'm a new fan now!

I was on vacation last week.  While there I happened upon a Galaga machine, but something was different.  The screen was "waving", like a constant sine wave throughout the entire monitor.  Is this some kind of hack or was the monitor about to fry?

LOL, I wasn't going to post about this, but this thread presented itself nicely :)

A waving monitor probably just needs a cap kit, or could POSSIBLY be a failing flyback.

Remember, if it is a Galaga "on location" then it has probably spent 20+ years on location.

I forgot to mention, while I was on vacation, my friend, who was watching after the cats/house played my arcade machine.  (I gave him the go ahead).  He said he played TMNT, MsPacman and the like for a while, but soon happened upon Bomb Jack.  Within several screens he was an addict.  I found this amusing because I was playing Bomb Jack like crazy the week before I left, and never told him about the game!  Weird stuff :)

So it is a problem...I found it refreshingly funny to play.  It was located on the boardwalk, so I doubt it was there too long, but I could be wrong.

Well, it may not have been in THAT location for 20 years, but being on location at all says that it is an operator owned game, and very likely has been operated in different locations since new, perhaps with a minor vacation in the 1986-1989 era when Galaga wasn't "cool".

Hehe, retro is back baby.  Galaga always was, and will always be cool
...nearly reaching uber cool status...
It's like space invaders on speed...or some other controlled substance.

Lies!  Filthy lies!  Galaga is, was, and shall be the Alpha and Omega of my video game addiction, and has been since I was a child.  So shall it be everyone else's.  Give in to the Galaga, all of you.

Speaking of Retro and Galaga being back. The local mall store chain "BlueNotes" (Canadian--sells clothing) right now is all done up in retro 70's rec-room style. They have a working Galaga set up too. (Has a cheap looking repro control panel and no art on the sides though).

If only I could make the time to properly restore *MY* Galaga.  ;D

Galaga is without a doubt the greatest game, I played it in my sparetime for a week and scored 116,000

Groovy ?
