Title: Finished the MAME cabinet!

Hi all, I am new to this. I finished building the MAME cabinet (for the kids of course) Check out my link and let me know what you think. Very nice!  What type of paint did you use and how did you apply it?

I ended up using High Gloss enamel paint applied with a roller for smooth surfaces, I used each roller only once, I used a new roller for every coat so as not to have any marks in the paint job. It came out very nice but I think next time I will use a spray gun and polyurethane car paint.

Very clean construction.

I have a question: since you have the base on wheels, all of the weight (cabinet + monitor + etc) must be supported by the base; how are the sides attached to the base?  

I'd like to do something similar, but would like to attach the screws holding the sides from the inside, to avoid using woodfiller (the outside will be a natural finish).  I'm concerned that the screws won't be long enough/strong enough to support the weight of the cabinet.

If you go to my web page and check out the" photo album" ,you will be able to see step by step instructions on the construction of the machine. But to answer your question.. the sides are attached to the rolling base with wood screws and glue,since I did not want all the weight on those screws (like you said)  I also connected braces inside from the monitor shelf down to the base. This will help transfer the weight to the base

You can attach the screws from the inside or out side to support the sides. I reccomend from the outside,that way you get the entire length of the screw going through the wood. Pre drill and countersink the screw and fill with bondo (auto body filler) sand smooth and prime. You will never see where the hole was. I dont have any pics of that part....sorry.
