Title: ArcadeVGA MAME Res Tool.
Post by: MikeAlex on June 29, 2004, 03:22:38 am
I would like some help with Minwah's Res Tool. When I use the 'Test' button, the picture for the displayed game
is PERFECT. Then I choose from the menu 'generate INI files' and the ini files are created without and kind of problem (I deleted all the ini files before creating the new ones). But when I run Mamewah, the resolution of the game is not the same as the one shown with the 'Test' button in the Res Tool. For Outrun, although in the Res Tool the image takes the whole screen, when i use Mamewah it leaves a black border around it.
It doesn't seen to be a INI generation problem since when I select 'HWStretch' the image is stretched to full screen.

I'm probably missing something here.

Thanx for your replies. :)

Do you have your INI path setup in MAME.INI?  By default, I think this is not set...

Yes, I have it set. I deleted the files already created in the ini directory, generated new ones and they appeared, as they should, in the ini directory.  Stange, don't you think. ???

I'm getting a similar problem.  I've run the Res tool and created the ini files, and I have inipath in the mame.ini file set.  Now for example when I test Galaga (namco) from the Res Tool test button it launches and is displayed correctly, however launching from within Mamewah the game is cut off top and bottom - ie. it is in a different resolution to what I specified??

Is there a good FAQ or guide around for using these tools?  Any custom Arcadevga.txt files?  Everything was working fine for me until I decided to upgrade, and try out 'noname', and now I've lost all my settings.  (Anyone know why my color is all screwed up with 'noname'?), and what I should be doing so that my vertical games aren't cut off on the top??  I had everything working great, but just had to go in and play around and wreck everything!  :P

Odd  ???

I don't suppose you are using any 'Additional Options'?  I doubt it but these are not used by the test mode, which I suspect you would have seen.

What you could do to check if the INI files are being used, is edit one (say galaga.ini), and add something obvious in there, like 'sound 0' or something, then launch the game.  This will tell you for sure if the INI file is being used...if it is not then it must be a MAME setup issue, if it is then it must be working right but indicates the 'Test' mode is not working correctly.

Post back your findings...

I thinck the ini files are used. When I set the Stretching option to 'HWSTRETCH', the setting is updated in the ini file.

I just tested mine and you are right Minwah, my inipath is not being used (or not being used fully??) for some reason.  I ran mame from the command line and specified the inipath using the "-inipath c:\emu\mame\ini" command and it worked - ie. the games displayed in the resolution specified in the ini file.  - the few vertical games I tested displayed ok.

Here's the thing though, I cannot get the inipath statement to work in the mame.ini file??  My mame.ini has the following line:

inipath ini

I have also tried:
inipath .;ini
and
inipath c:\emu\mame\ini

but neither seem to work??  I'm not sure what's going on here??  I'm using NoName Mame (v0.75 I think?) if that makes a difference??  I guess for now I can rig it using the "default options" in Mamewah, but I'd like to know what's going on!

Edit:  I just tried setting -inipath in the default options within Mamewah and it works, however when it is set mame then ignores the entire "mame.ini" file.  I know this for sure because the disclaimer and OK screens get turned back on.  ?????????

I think I'll try regular mame (as opposed to noname) and see if it makes a difference.

I have this in my MAME.INI:

inipath                 ini

...that should work, hopefully...

Yes, it's working properly now. Thanks Minwah (for everything...). :D
