Title: Dismounting an arcade monitor Help Needed!
Post by: Maumauproductions on June 28, 2004, 02:43:36 pm
I acquired a Crystal Castle machine with a dead monitor. I will be attempting to MAME It. I just read the FAQ on monitors and found out how dangerous they are...I just want to remove mine and put something else (Probably either a computer monitor or TV in there). How safe or dangeous is just removing the monitor? Whats the easiest and safest way to do something of this callibur. Any help'd be apprreciated.

Just so you know--the monitor forum would be a better spot for this..At any rate, if its a dead monitor discharge it anyways (likley to be dead but better safe than sorry) and remove all the electronics (should be a few plugs coming from the tube to the chassis) and set them aside (this includes the neckboard) you can ebay this to someone who can fix them

Tip the cab forward so its resting on its front, then undo the bolts that hold the frame of the monitor to the cab  while holding onto the monitor frame (if there's no frame its alot more difficult) and you'll likely need another set of strong hands (girlfriends/wives are notoriously bad at this!)then you can either life the tube and frame out or drop it forward to a waiting pillow and lift the cab up off of it.  Its heavy and fragile so take your time and plan your course of action.

You sure it's dead?

Arcade monitors are superior in visual quality.  You might want to try fixing this.

Arcade monitors do have their dangers, but if you handle them carefully (by the frame) you'll be fine.
