Title: ROM Sorting and DELETING *******
Post by: koolmoecraig on June 26, 2004, 02:01:30 pm
I am looking for some sort of interface where I can delete unwanted roms while looking at their screenshot.

Basically and Itunes style interface. Something where you can delete unwanted roms from the "library" using a list of the actual game names, not the abbreviated rom names.

Is there anything like this? I'm trying to get rid of all the unwanted stuff.

Thanks!

Sounds like an idea for a great app. I've not ever seen one, but it would be of great value. The only problem would be that some rom sets have dependancies on other files such as clones etc. You'd have to have some mechanism for knowing if you whack one rom will it hose another.

this would be great... someone should make it heh.

Is there a way to delete roms by genre though?  I'd really like to get rid of those damn mahjong games and most of the quiz games too.... but I just dont know what games are what by their file names.

It Should be possible if an app used catver.ini kinda like how mamewah can sort by genre or by control, etc.

I second the vote for a mahjong eliminator.  ;D How many stupid variations can there be of that stupid game?

I wrote a little batch file for removing all the mahjong roms. Take a look at this thread (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=19693;start=msg158366#msg158366).

http://www.mameworld.net/mcm/

This will do it, Mame content manager, this won't let you view and delete by screenshots, but you can delete by categotries, i.e. Mahjhong, Puzzle, Quiz, etc.  Great program for thinnning out the crap you know you won't play.

Not that I'm advocating Mahjong, because I don't really know how to play it, but which is worse, 200 variations of that, or the 20,000 different cards games that seem to be out there that most people have either never heard of, or never care about.  I mean, how many of those "1000 different card games for windows" cd's can Wal-Mart scrounge up in a year!?!
At least the Japanese make it interesting sometimes by giving you a picture of a naked chick if you clear the board.  Anybody even wanna think about what you'd get if you were to play old maid under the same premise!?

I guess I see your point, but those walmart cds dont require 24 buttons on a control panel and a working knowledge of the japanese language.  Plus if I wanna play cards, I'll go grab a deck of them.... I don't need em on my MAME machine, heh.

Ok, if someone is going to write this application, add these features as well
