I just ordered my controls from bob roberts and I waiting for them to arrive. I ordered 2 8way joys and one 4 way joy. I like the idea of having 7 buttons per player, but where should I locate the 4 way.
Thanks in advance.

how would that work with the use of buttons. Would you not want to use player 1's buttons?

It doesn't really matter.
Just use whatever is most comfortable, and set those buttons in-game.
-
If you've got room you probably want to install a couple of buttons to the right of the 4 way and to the left of p2 8 way.
-
So how does this look, should I change anything?
-
I'm thinking of putting my 4way directly to the left of my P1 joystick, that way I can just use the P1 buttons. I really don't like the cluttered feeling a 4way + buttons look in the middle of a panel, but that's just me
-
Pac man doesn't feel right unless the joystick is in the middle. You might get used to it, but you'll know what I'm talking about as soon as you start your first game.
-
Ok everyone is suggesting putting the joystick in the middle. My question is if your playing something like donkey kong that uses buttons which buttons would you use? Any thoughts?

As mentioned before, any buttons you want. You could make EVERY button respond to the jump command in DK you want.
-
Putting it directly to the left of the player two joy is a good deal, then you can set it to use either button bank, and it will be ambidextrous that way, just like original machines often were.
-
how about this? i was thinking of using it for my cab but only with 4 buttons per player- hopw many buttons do defender and spyhunter need? the j-stick is a ball-top for games like pacman. i used the happ supers template because its a 8-way js.

There should be a button next to the "reply with quote" that says "modify." Granted I'm new enough that I haven't used the feature yet, so I'm not sure what all you can modify, but I've see on other threads where people have taken pics out of their post, so I imagine that this should do it for you.
-
all right. i fixed it. sorry all. thank you for the information, independentthread. if it happens again, you have my permission to destroy my cab... ;D .
-
That's okay, I'm having enough fun destroying mine. (now all I need is a devil smiley)
-
well, it's actually a good thing that you're having enough fun destroying yoursd because all mine is is a bunch of plans on my computer... and i kind of need that computer. it'll proabbly be my second machine's "brains" ;D

Quick question. I'm trying to decide between two 8-ways and one 4-way or get two 8/4-way switchable sticks.
My question is, if I go the first route (two 8-way, plus one 4-way) - are there any (many) 2-player games that use dedicated 4-way controls? Meaning, is one 4-way stick enough?
thanks!

I think there may be a couple of two player games that use 2 4-way sticks. Non come to my mind, but I think they've been mentioned before. The game that I think of when I hear 2 4-way joysticks is Karate Champ.
