Title: Double Dragon
Post by: Mr. Dude on June 25, 2004, 12:41:22 pm
I've noticed that when multiple enemies are on the screen the game slows down a bit.  Did this happen in the original arcade game?  I think the double dragon II rom does this too.  Anyone else ever notice this?

i remember the arcade slowing in places - usually where the big muscle guys came in - you know whe big baldy one and the guy like Mr.T......

although the DD cab in my local arcade used to go blank if the cab got banged about a bit during rough play........

maybe someone else can remember better or has an original DD cab???

There was definately slow down in the original arcade - I think mame re-creates this accurately.

Its quite an old game so unless you have a slow pc and trouble with other games, mame is doing its job - being arcade perfect ;-)

Thanks guys! ;D  I kinda figured this was the case. It's just been so long since I've played one in the arcade that I couldn't remember exactly.

Yes, definitely slow down on a real machine, DD2 is even worse, I like to overclock mame on games like these and metal slug series and they play alot smoother.

In game, bring up the on-screen display (default configured key is [ ` ] (1 left the top row [ 1 ] key).

First thing you should see if volume.

Use up and down to cycle thru the other options,  You should see for example "Overclock CPU0" set to 100%.  Use the right arrow to increase the percentage effectively overclocking of the CPU in mame.  Helps to do the same with other CPU chips that exist.

Interestingly, I am using mame .67.  These options exist in the main mame distribution.  Testing it on Mame32Plus, only the sound based chips show for the exact same games I tested???  Maybe mame32plus is doing it by default?  Maybe not..... anyone know?

I'm sure cheats have to be enabled for overclocking, also holding down the shift key to adjust all cpu's at once. Does anyone know how to keep these settings ?

rtfm!

This specific slowdown is actually covered in the mame faq.  How could you miss it?

Ok, I will set this to rest, again :)  Coming from someone who owns double dragon I and II (in a double dragon II cabinet), it's the game!  It did it on the NES once and awhile too.

HC's right though, the mame FAQ answers alot of questions, even on specific games that are famous for certain problems :)
