I'm ready to set up a template for my CP and start drilling. I'm using a capcom style 3x2 setup. I need to know how far the buttons should be placed from each other (from the centers would be most helpful). And how far to the left the Joystick should be placed.
All the templates I've found have either been far to large to print (3inch diameter button holes and whatnot) or don't have measurements.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Make sure that when you go to print it from acrobat reader, make sure in the print confirmation dialog the the following (if present) are UNCHECKED ...
"Shrink oversized pages to paper size"
AND
"Expand small pages to paper size"
Then I'm fairly certain that it will come out actual size and you can use it as a drilling template.

Assuming you are using standard buttons, 1-3/8" is absolute minimum center-to-center.
If you go any smaller, you won't be able to get the nuts on the bottom.
Standard spacing for most home-builts is about 1-1/2" center-to-center.
Alot of the arcade machines had the buttons really widely spaced, and were less playable than they could have been because of this.

Tyr this one. Print it at 100% and it should be what you need. It's straight from capcom.

I tried the template that kirk posted but after building it and going to the arcade I realized with that template the spacing was to far. I am not quite sure what the spacing is on that template but it didn't seem like the real SF in the arcade to me. Hey maybe I did something wrong when I printed it....anyways I am now using 1 1/2" spacing.
I also think it might have to do with the button you use.
The best suggestion I heard was to lay out your control panel on a shoe box or some other type of cardboard box, and then you can try out diffrent layouts buttons in a curved layout, straight curved , also how many buttons 6 or 7 buttons...etc

when you go to microsoft paint, turn of all margins....that is where your space is...(i wasted a few pages but i figured it out :)

Thanks for all the help.
I printed out one of those templates and tried it on a shoebox, I didn't much like the feel of the joystick, it seemed a bit too close to the buttons, so I moved 'em over an inch and it feels great now.

the buttons are fine IMO, but the joysticks are too close to the buttons..i plan on doing the same
