Hey everyone, I've been reading everything here and checking out all the samples and I am now a little confused and need any and all help available. I've got my CP layed out and all my controls decided on, except for the button colors. I like the layout and I think it will be comfortable.
I want to go with a black and purple theme but I'm wondering if it's too much purple. I think the artwork will look good when completed.
I Need help becouse I want to order my Happs buttons and Joystick on Friday. I have everything else except the buttons and joysticks and I want to complete my Cp for next weekend.
Any suggestions or coments on the color choice and the layout would be greatly appreciated. I am going to start my CP this week.

Go with black buttons, makes a nice contrast from the purple. Besides, colors other than black, red, or white look strange on anything other than a very multi-colored cp (trust me!)
-
If you're looking for a vibrant complimentary color to purple consider yellow buttons. ;)
Don't know if your purple cab is like this but it might give you an idea.

Otherwise I'd think that Blue and Red would be good.

Ok I did this a lot when building my panel... messed around with a photo in Photoshop to see which colors I wanted where...
So I upped the purple of the panel and changed one set of buttons so you could get the effect.
How's this below?
Still may not be what you're going for but may help you visualize. ;)

I think I can work black buttons into the color scheme but I'm wondering if its too much black? Although black does work with my artwork better than purple. Yellow looks good too but only for a few buttons. Although I don't want Player1 and 2 to be multicolored.
I'm not building a Cabnet, but a CP that will be attacched to my computer desk. It will fold out of the way (swing down) when not used. I'm making it out of 3/4 Ply with artwork sandwiched between ply and plexy glass.

Here's an example of black buttons on a purple layout:
http://www.hanaho.com/products/HotRodJoystick/overview.html
I used multiple color buttons, because it makes it easier to say "Press the yellow button for fire", etc.
One thing I might suggest (at least I am doing this and think it's a good idea):
Coin Buttons - Green - For "Go" and also the color of money (at least in the US.
Pause Button - Orange or Yellow - General caution or warning color.
Exit Buttton - Red - For "Stop".
If you did this on your panel, then all the player buttons being black would stand out instead of blending in.

I got a few good suggestions so how's this for a color scheme? Just in case thanks for your help guys.

One thing you could try, and it is what I'll be doing, is alternating colors for the 6 or 7 action buttons.
I'm using the 6 button SF layout and am using black and blue buttons in the following way:
Bk Bl Bk
Bl Bk Bl
Just a thought...

I think I liked the spinner better in purple (or silver).

Tiger-Heli your right the purple spinner top looks better with my layout. Alot of great suggestions. Blue, I thought about the samething, but the button configuration doesn't lend it's self well to that type of color combination. That's the button layout that I want but tring to get colors to work with the layout is driving me nuts.
Where are these peale's black buttons to, sounds different?

I think that is aesthetically pleasing.

Hey Blue I tried both your options, the second one didn't look right, but the first one is better. Thanks for helping me, Ive been staring at this CP for a month and now I have to order buttons, so any suggestions are appreciated.
Here's another layout...

I think you should stick with the all black buttons...Just doesn't work right alternating IMO...

Actually, I agree, I prefer the all black buttons - but it is YOUR panel, so if you like them . . .

Hey Guys you have all been a great help with lots of suggestions for button color choices. I now have it narrowed down to either
bk bk
bk bk bk bk
or
bk pr
pr bk pr bk
I think either will work with the artwork I'm working on. Again thank you all for your great suggestions.
This place Rocks!!!

Tiger-Heli's right...It's your cab, you should do what you want to do since you own the cab :)

If you could find different shades of purple and lay them out something like this. This would also look good. Black buttons are nice, however you can still get a good look with purple buttons.

I took a break from my CP for a few days, well the Button color decision anyway, and cut the 3/4" plywood for the CP. What a mess, should have used a mask.
Anyway I was looking at all the suggestions I had for button colors and tried them all, plus some others. I decided all black buttons will look the best so I will order them and the joysticks and spinner tonight.
I just want to thank everyone for their suggestions, it really helped me to decide on the colors.
Maybe when it's done I can post a few Pics.
Thank you, this board rocks....
