Title: sound messing up in my athlon 2600 in dos window

i have windows 98 and im running arcadeos/advmame and my sound seems like it slow's down sometime when playing...i have 256mb of ram a 30 gig drive and onboard sound. would the onboard sound be the issue?

most games i play they go from normal sound to slightly slower then back to normal and it keeps doing this randomly

RAM is not as important as CPU speed...

what CPU are you running?

What motherboard are you using? What onboard sound chip do you have.  I have a soyo dragon as well as on asus a7n8x-e both have the same issue with my 2600 mobile.  I beleive it had to do with heat issue with mine, because once I added different northbridge cooler, then put the old northbridge onto the southbridge, and then, found the audio chip and put a small heatsink on that, all my problems went away, but I had all the heatsinks already.  Going to buy them would have run 20 bucks, which at that point, you can get a sb live off ebay for that.
