Title: MameWAH Run Time error '75'
Post by: GameDork on June 20, 2004, 01:43:24 am
What is it?

How do I fix this?

It does this everytime I try to do anything in mamewah.

Please in an easy step by step manner. I have no idea about batch files and the like.

Thanks

BTW its windows 98

Make a batch file which does something like (substitute your mame path etc.):

c:
cd\mame
mame > temp
exit

Then run the batch file *before* MAMEWAH for the first time after boot-up.

A batch file is just a text file with .bat as an extension rather than .txt.

And you should *never* have to uninstall/re-install MAMEWAH...it won't make any difference.  Deleting the \mamewah\files folder will remove any files causing problems.

I uninstalled/reinstalled and it works perfect now. Maybe I had done something wrong when I first installed it.

Thanks for the help!!!

Well, I uninstalled/reinstalled and it still isn't working. I tried the batch file, but considering I'm not a computer programmer, I'm not sure if I'm writing it correctly. DAMN! This is the last piece of the puzzle too! Maybe I should just go with Emulaxian or some other frontend. These errors are pissing me off...

As I said, unistalling / re-installing won't do anything.  Delete the \MAMEWAH\Files folder, and do the batch file thing, it's not difficult, you could copy/paste my post if your mame folder is the same...

In fairness it is about time I sorted the Win98 bug(s) out...it is a ---smurfette--- that I cannot replicate the problems tho  :(

I've tried that. This is exactly what I did:

From this point, I can play games from MAMEWAH but if I shutdown or restart it does the same crap again. Is there a PERMANENT fix or is this something that would have to be done every time. If so, this definitely isn't going to work for me. LMK

I've tried that. This is exactly what I did:

  • Deleted C:\Program Files\MAMEWAH\Files
  • Ran .bat file exactly like above
  • Entered MAMEWAH to find that all games had been deleted and that I needed to re-setup everything including the emulator settings
  • Exited MW after games had been refreshed
  • C:\Program Files\MAMEWAH\Files is back!

OK you did right, but you need to run the batch file every time you start your PC - no big deal as you can just put it in your startup...The PERMANENT fix is to get XP - this is actually a Win98 bug not a MAMEWAH one (although it is possible to program around...)

Minwah -

I don't use MAMEWah, but I get the same type on error (actually RunTime Error 70: Permission Denied) when I try to use Johnny5 in Win98.

Do you think a similar idea would work for this?

Also, I understand some DOS (cd is change directory), but what does

mame > temp

actually do?

For details of my problems, see:

and

Thanks!

Thanks for the help MINWAH. I've got it working fine now but I think I've decided to go ahead and upgrade to XP. I don't like the feeling of having to run batch files behind the scenes to fix bugs. Thanks for the time...

Minwah,

Sorry to catch this thread so late, but you mentioned that the Run time error 75 is a 98 issue...so does that mean if I upgrade to Windows2000 it should resolve it as well?  How does Mamewah run in Windows2000 (comparable to 98 or XP)...just trying to avoid buying another copy of XP  ;)  Granted I can do the .bat file as well, which I probably will if you don't recommend Win2000.  THanks for the great front end and all the support and answers you provide  :)

AFAIK The issue should not happen on Win2k...I would recommend XP over 2k, almost purely because I *know* it runs well under XP - in theory it should run just as well under 2k, but I haven't tried it.

If you already have Win2k, then give it a try :)

Thanks Fox, I'm thinking of upgrading to W2K today to see how it runs overall.

Keep in mind that AFAIK, dual Mice and dual trackballs are supported only under Win98 or WinXP, not Win2K, if that matters to you.

Thanks Tiger-Heli, for the time being that won't be an issue, however in the hopefully not to distant future it probably will be.  I'm still wavering between working around the WIN98 limitation, or going with WIN2000 for the time being.  Eventually I'll probably end up breaking down and purchasing another copy of XP...  ::)

When I tried using the Mamewah settings I had on my XP computer for another computer with 98SE I got the runtime 75 errors. So I played around with the settings and got it to work with.

List Generation - 3
Send ROM Path - True
Send ROM Extension - False
Use Long File Names - False
Show DOS Box - 0

Maybe that will help.

Hey Quarterstringer,

That sounds good I'll give it a shot...unfortunately I'm not overly familiar with what the settings that are being changed does.  Anything with the changes to the settings that are going to be noticeable or I should be aware of?  I'll give it a shot tomorrow (if I can get out of work at a reasonable time).  Thanks for all the tips everyone  :)

I'm not sure what the different settings mean either, I was just happy that I got MameWah to work. I'm not even sure if it will work for you. If it doesn't, just try out the different  combinations for the Send ROM Path, Extensions, and Long File Names.

That's all I did, until I finally got it to work. Good luck.
