Title: Recommended emulators to use for non mame roms
Post by: SmokinGun on June 19, 2004, 11:43:48 am
Hello all,

I built my own machine a while back and am looking to add some more emulators to it.  I'm currently only running Mame and Zinc.  I'd like to know what emulators you all run for what genre.  In other words, what emulator does the majority recommend for SNES, NES, Atari, ETC; as well as what genres do you run on your machine?

I've looked through all the emulation sites and there are a lot of emulators to choose from, so I figured I'd ask what you all run so I don't have to run them all to find the one that has the most options/works the best.

Replace amazing with annoying and you've got it about right.

Anybody ever heard of google?  It's an amazing piece of technology, if you wish to find an emulator for a system simply type in system name+emulator and magically, the most popular emulator appears towards the top of the list!

Dude relax, plenty of people know how to use google.  This forum is here b/c we all have similar interests in gaming right?  Maybe he was just asking what WE use to emulate other things.  Many systems have different emulators and maybe he was asking to get a feel for what we the friendly forum members use.  As for my answer, same as above ^

It's even funnier when someone asks a same question that was asked a few posts earlier.  As this question could probably be found on every other page on the Software forum.

More people need to take advantage of the the excellent forum "Search" function.  As probably every BYOAC question has been asked in the past, and probably more then once.  And if you do a search before you post your question, the majority of the time, you will find an answer to your quesiton.

Now, my favourite question of all time is..

Why isn't Golden Tee 2005 in Mame??   ;D

If you take away all the posts that ask repeat questions.. and all the posts that put people down for asking repeat questions... you won't have anything new to read on this forum.

So why aren't these types of "repeating" questions on a noob FAQ???

you know its funny, I typed in a search for emulators of other than mame items into google, and guess what I got...........another sites message board, with similar posts and questions about which emu to use!!!!!!  There are a few people on THIS message board who are getting more rude as every day goes on, perhaps too much coffee, or not enough fiber.  Going on rants over simple questions, especially to "llamas" which is another crap situation all in itself, basically making fun of anyone "new" to this message board, whether they realize it or not.  Instead of pissing and moaning, is it too hard to just answer the question or pass on the link to help out.  Just a thought.......

MnMCaputo agreed.
I don't understand why guys just don't pass on the repeat questions.
I know that Howard has to up keep his rep of raging on everyone dishing out a 'stupid question' - and fine I can under stand that, but it does get tiresome. And Howard pls don't take this as an attack, you do amazing work here at and for this place.

If every question is answered in an FAQ, then what would you like to talk about in this forum?

Hows the weather at your place? How 'bout them Dodgers? Did you see that new movie? It gets to the point where any question relating to Mame will be one that has been asked before.

Smartass, that's why I said "noob" questions! You know, the questions that are asked atleast twice a day.

One thing I have noticed as the boards have gotten bigger, is that a lot of the more advanced questions and quality information whether related to cab building or software ends up getting buried by a lot of the repeat questions.  Granted I have asked my fair share of noob questions, I wonder how many have read through all the posts on all the pages (when I first came here, I read through them all, skipped a lot on the main forum in the last year though due to repeat stuff).  Anyway my point,,,99% of all questions (unrelated to new release stuff) can be found in previous posts.  I think a noob faq would be a good thing and there are a few semi noob/faq to be found on the different forums.  Gotta agree with Howard on this one.

Not to completely get off topic....emulators used...
zsnes
gens
mekaw
p64
project tempest
z26

I'm pretty new to this forum, started coming here because of the excellent Project Arcade book ... but here's how I see it: this website is compiled by "Saint" aka John St. Clair author of the above book, right?

And his book has only been out for a short while, right?

So if people find this site first, then learn about his book and get real excited, ask some "noob" questions (whatever that's supposed to imply) and get called retards by a bunch of know-it-alls, they'll get turned off by all the hostility, not buy Saint's book, and you hardcore BYOACers will be financially damaging the man, without whom, you wouldn't have a great place like this to go to when you want to feel superior, right?

Correct me if I'm figuring this wrong

BTW, I was just about to ask what non-MAME emulators to use, good think I saw this post

Wouldn't going back and making the previous posts "Stickied" solve some of the "NOOB" issues since they're usually the first posts in the forums?

*Edit*--  Like the post at the top of this forum already?
