Title: Rotating Monitor Question
Post by: southpaw13 on June 19, 2004, 12:02:41 am
What is the minimum width of a cabinet to be able to rotate an arcade monitor inside of it?  I have a Donkey Kong cab, but there is no way it would fit...

Thanks,
southpaw

Installing a rotating monitor in your cabinet is more dependant on the size of your monitor than the size of your cab.  Let me explain myself.

You can have a rotating monitor in your donkey kong cab please don't ! but you just need a smaller monitor.

just measure it! not quite as simple as that of course. i have a rotating monitor in a cocktail. it will depend on how much you want to butcher the monitor/tv

Basically (and I'm coming up with this late after drinking so forgive me if incorrect math is occuring here) you just measure the furthest diagnols and that's pretty, much what the inside width has to be (at least).  That, BTW doesn't include rotating hardware or what-have-yous.

First off, de-case your monitor.

Next, discharge the monitor (figure out how FIRST)

Measure the distance from one corner bracket (as seen in above pic) to the one on the oposite side.  This has to be less than the indide width of your cab.

Now you will need to mount the monitor to something to rotate it.  Most people use a wooden board.  Some people make theirs very large.  If you make it a little thicker, you can get away with it being very small.

I just fit a 21" computer monitor (I know, boo, hiss) into a Centipede restoration (relax, no side art and converted to Growl (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=G&game_id=8017)).  The inside width of the cab is only 23.75".  It's tight, but nice and smooth.  ;)

I've got a rotating 21" Hantarex in a 620mm wide cabinet (24 1/2"). It barely fits as the 2x1 frame that it sits on had to be shaved to allow the frame of the monitor to clear it at 45 deg of rotation.
