Thought I would share. Its been done for close to a year now. UAII style cab with some modifications of my own. Running mamewah with xp. Using car speakers and car amp powered off separate pc power supply (sounds great) with black light behind speakers.
Just my 2 cents here and some may agree or disagree. I went with the painted option on plywood. If you decide to paint,,,,sand, sand, sand, and sand some more. I also decided for my first one that it would be an all in one panel (I really like it now), but the more I use it the more I think I would want swappable panels or just one with less controls. I did mount basically a two player setup in the 4 player control board which give me the spacing I wanted between controls. The flight stick more or less is there for looks (is handy for zaxxon and few others). Biggest thing I would change or advice others to do (didn't listen myself) would be to not mount the fighter joysticks at an angle from the monitor. For me anyway, I end up pushing the joystick in the wrong direction when my eyes are focused on the screen. Overall I'm happy with it though, guess that's what matters!
Thanks to all the people on the boards that participate in this forum (couldn't have done it without community here). Artwork credits go to Snaake, thanks!

I really like your UA2 cab, I am just starting building a UA2 desgin and I was considering using car speakers also. What brand of speakers did you use? What size are they? The speaker panel looks very thin but you just seemed to squeeze those in.
Oh and what are those spike clasp type things around your cab? I might be going the painting route so thanks for your advice about sanding...I hope my cab turns out like yours...good job!

Didn't realize untill today, the flight stick isn't in any of the pics. Anyway if you look close you can see the hole for it in the cp. It's a hacked blue i-stick with glowire.
The clasp things are control panel latches (very handy), but I ended up really not needing the set that is on the bottom of the cp/side of cab. The panel really doesn't move around much. I got the latches from Bob Roberts website.
On the speakers...The ones above the marquee are 4" pioneer blue cone speakers from Wal-Mart. The ones in the back are 8" subs, pyramid brand from Parts Express. They are kinda cheapies as far as car speakers can go. Think they were like $13 a piece. Picked them out mainly because of price, size and they have a clear poly cone that gives a nice effect with the black light. The 8's are not even close to being "exerted" even when I have it up load. Pushing amp with pc power supply. For games though,,,it is plently and anything much loader when using as a jukebox and I get things "rattling".
Speaker caution!!! There is a possibility of having problems with the monitor and other computer equipment because of the magnets on the speakers not being shielded. I have as of yet not had any problems with them. I did order cancellation magnets just in case. Depends on strength of magnets, proximity to computer equipment and orientation of the magnets. Use unshielded speakers at your own risk. There are a number of threads here talking about this.
hope this helps

Out of this bunch of speakers which do you guys think look the best. The reason I'm not going for pioneer speakers like the ones above is because I am going for a red and black theme. I guess though the speaker panel would be about the same width though and that is why none of the following speakers are over 4" in height.

SS/Anyone:
I'm chasing some catches like the ones you have, but have only been able to find normal case catches (http://www.rockler.com/ecom7/product_details.cfm?&offerings_id=437) so far.
I see yours work with 90

Blakey,
They are control panel latches. The only two places I know to get them are happs controls and bob roberts site (probably others though). I tried all the local places here and nobody had anything just like it. Search for control panel latches on bob's site (they are $8 for two)!
http://www.therealbobroberts.com/
www.happcontrols.com look for universal panel latches part # 49-0059-00 ($9.80 for two).

Nice cab, I've "just" started building a UAII, what trackball have you used?
-
I used a happ 3" trackball (not the high lip version). Picked it up off of ebay (25-30 bucks,,I think,,,been awhile). Replaced the white trackball with a translucent green and lighted the bottom with two super bright leds. Could stand to be a little brighter though. I also ended up using the trackball plate that has "no bolt heads showing on top". I think it gives it a smoother look, but that's just my preference.
