Title: Software choice to design?
Post by: chrisindfw on June 18, 2004, 03:36:22 pm
Ok.. Other than Visio and AutoCad.. What software did/would you use to plan and build your cab?

I am looking for something where I can visually put the pieces together before messing up 100 pieces of wood. :)

hmmm... i think you want to use some 3d software... to model the cab to see how it looks!!.

I was thinking the same idea... if you find a good one thats easy to use, let me know! :D

Call me old fashioned but I used graph paper.  Also made a quick paper mock-up (which I still wish I had) to see how the dimensions look.  I'm still not 100% sure how it's turning out (is the marquee supposed to be the same height as my eyes on this 6 foot 2 inch body of mine?) but I found it easier than learning a new program (not to mention cheaper and wonderfully portable).

I used Sketchup.  They have a free trial period and it was easy to figure out.

Yes, yes it is. I had the exact same thought when I was planning and cutting mine. The machine looks bigger though when the entire thing is put together.

This might be a completely useless post, but hopefully someone knows what I'm thinking of...
I used Visio personally, but if I hadn't, there is a free online control panel design thingy (Flash, java, web enabled, something) online that I thought was VERY well done, and would recommend it..... if I knew where it was or what it was called..

A little help here?
