I just finished my laptop mame machine and the keyboard is covered. It is removeable but it is a pain to lift the panel up to type ok on some of the games that say they don't wok right.
Unfortunately I didn't think of this before I built the machine.
Is there a way to configure mame to use a button/joystick command to replicate this.
Now I also just realized that I need to do the same for escaping out of a game.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Are you using some sort of encoder, like an ipac? If so then map a shift function.
Also you can disable most of the OK screens in mame in the ini file.

I am using the minipac ..Is there info on ultimarcs site to map a shift funcction? or is it easy enough for you to explain it to me?
Also How do I disable the ok screens in the mame ini file?
Thanks

In the mame.ini file, skip_disclaimer and skip_warnings.
You can program the minipac with the ipac programming utility, right? I thought you could.....

Well I went to the game and went crazy I punched all type of button combos and I found the answer to one of my questions...If you press player1 and player2 simeltaneously it will return you back to the gamelist.
Is this what you are supposed to do or did I screw mame up..LOL
Now as for the progaming utility I am not sure if it uses that new program like the ipac .
Can anyone confirm if it is the same utility program as the ipac?
Thanks

Sounds like you have the jumper set to MAME therefore the player 1 start button is by default the shift button and player 2 shifted is escape ( hope that makes sense ). Try a few other combos like player 1 start and plyer 1 joystick down ( pretty sure that's pause ). There are many other combos or you can set the jumper to alt and program your own.

Yes the jumper is set to mame
Cool ...Thanks for the pause explanation
I didn't realize mame had this built in. I thought it all had to be programed. Is there something I can read to learn about these commands.
Thanks

I've not seen a complete list of the pre-programmed shift functions for the minipac, but you can load the programming utility and should be able to see all of them or change them after moving the jumper.
Here are a few off the top of my head though:
player1 (default shift) + player2 = ESC
player1 + joystick1 right = tab
player1 + joystick1 down = pause
player1 + joystick1 left = return
player1 + joystick1 up = ~ (adjust sound)
Hope it helps.

No, the minipac has it programmed in. THOUGH it is possible to setup combos in mame.

That's the default shift combo for esc on an ipac. Player one is the shift key.
