I had a friend come over for a BBQ who had never seen mame nor my modest arcade controller. He loved it! This was the first time I had another non-family member over to play mame. After reviewing the list of games, he decided he wanted to play his old fav, Major Havoc. He turned off the lights, turned up the volume and played Major Havoc for hours!
What happend when you showed people your mame and controller setup for the first time?

He came over to visit; stayed for hours, and didn't say a word to me. Bastard.

Nice. My friend was generally polite; he ate my sausages, drank my beer (Sierra-Nevada Pale Ale of course), and used my toilet. But once the Mame got booted up, that was the last I saw of him until the rest of his family was leaving. IN the mean time, I got to watch the kids so the wives could chatter.

Yeah, that was about it.

As annoying as that is, at least he had fun and I would probably do the exact same thing if someone had a free "whack-a-mole" game in their house.
-
speaking of "whack a mole" does anyone know where to get one or how to build one?

haven't yet. And I assume you just should set up a timer system, and leaf push buttons.

Yeah, and some sort of method to make them pop up... maybe a stick with a spring on the end. On top of the spring is the leaf switch and mole assembly. But how would you make them go up and down? I guess individual motors or air pressure (like animatronic Chuck E. Cheese). ACtually, air pressure might be best... one air pump hooked up to a number of computer controlled valves and the valves let air in and out of pistons at computer controlled rates... and on top of the pistons, the switch and mole assembly... hmm... plus, with the air pressure, aside from gaskets, whacking the moles would not damage anything....

The first time I had friends over to play my cabinet, we played stepmania for awhile, then just played random games. The final friend to leave, he stayed until we beat do don pachi.

I had a friend over and we started out by playing Marvel vs Capcom. Although my friend chose the game, I absolutely destroyed him. He was not having much fun so I switched to coop games. We played through Metal Slug X and DoDonPachi - He found those games much more enjoyable.

I had a get together just the other night and one of my friends thought it was the coolest thing ever. We ended up beating X-Men then playing through many of his other old favorites. His girlfriend got pissed though..... but now he wants to build one for himself.... and she got more pissed.

Every time we have people over I pretty much know that the cab will run non-stop all night. It's always a big hit.

BTW, I talked to my friend who came over to play Major Havoc and he said he has had Major Havoc dreams since he came over and he keeps replaying what he did wrong and what he wants to try next in his mind. My guess is he LOVES Major Havoc more than I knew someone could.
