I am just adding cocktail mode to my frontend.
I am having some issues with the mouse in that I'm not rotating the mouse clicks / drags (since you edit it in the rotated perspective).
So I can fix it two ways.
1) Rotate all mouse events.
2) Unrotate the screen when editing.
I create my skins on another machine myself. But I don't know what others do.

I'd likely create a skin on a machine other than my emulator, but Ihaven't done either yet. However, I'll be starting a cocktail project soon and would be interested in how this all goes.

On Kymaera, you edit all skins on a horizontal monitor. The vertical skins appear vertical in the skin editor. When Kymaera is run in rotated mode, it then rotates the entire skin to the correct 90 or 270 degree orientation. This way, I don't have to worry about rotating mouse clicks or events.
The downside of this is: you probably have to create the skins on a different computer than the one you're going to run it on.

With mine, you create the skins on a horizontal monitor, but the skins appear vertically w/in the editor. No real way to do it on the vertical monitor...
(VertiWAH btw)

In mine you can skin it rotated...but its just much easier to do the skins on the desktop computer then on my cab with a rotated monitor...
I sometimes fool around with the skins a bit while the fe is running rotated but that is only to experiment with the layout...the final skin i always refine on my desktop.

I don't use a vertical cab but...
I think it seems fair to edit layouts/skins on a horizontal-monitor'd-PC. I mean, everyone has one that they download MAME / FE's etc. on, so there is no excuse ;)
