Title: Not Mine - The Mother of all Control Panels
Post by: RetroJames on June 14, 2004, 09:00:09 am
Maybe it is the angle of the photo, but it looks like you could land an f-15 on that thing!  Steering wheels too... :o

It always makes me laugh when I see the panels that incorporate every possible control and the game they choose to use when they take pictures is one that requires a single 4-way joystick with no buttons.

It looks pretty big to me.  I know you've got to have room for 3 steering wheels, so it's probably as big as it looks.

Hideous. Were that CP independent of the cabinet, like a showcase, it would be acceptable. But that's just too much.

I think it's funny that it's huge and has every control imaginable and he's playing ms. pacman.

Reminds me of Chuck E. Cheese

You can eat pizza at it, and play video games.

Ah, good, now we don't have to speculate.  What are the dimensions of your CP?

A suddenly smaller forest is weeping somewhere.

Houseplants are just as good at filling excessive amounts of apartment floor space.  So are cat jungle gyms.

Why did this thread need to be created to rip on someone's hard work? Hey, he didn't chop up a Pacman cabinet to add a 10' panel, and I find it to be an attractive machine.

Where did you get the dark green buttons? Those are pretty cool.

1hookedspacecadet, your Omega Race cab is absolutely 100% beautiful, respectful and amazing. Just don't let it go to your head. This guy probably put a harty amount of work into this cab, and deserves some respect.

OMG, LMAO! Can he even see the monitor from where he has to stand to play?

I know I'm stepping on Doc's line here but:

"Dude, go modular"

You wanna play Centipede?... well that part of the CP is down the block.  I'll give you a lift.  ;D

Sorry I'm just ribbing - if it works then that right there is half the battle.  DKs right though - we shouldn't rag on his CP.  If he likes it that is all that matters.

The cab looks like it was constructed well. Albeit he put a lot of time and effort in to it, that doesn't make it appealing. And as was stated, it's just not practical. Name one single 4-player game that uses 6 buttons? This further proves that just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Some people are getting out of hand with their CP's. This is a perfect example.
If indeed schreiter is the proprietor of this oversized atrocity, he seems to have a good sense of humor. You don't need to stick up for anybody. We're all adults.

na...i'm impressed to be awarded the mother of all control panels.  i was going for a norad missle launch feel mixed with a hint of boardwalk arcade fun.

DK and everyone else, I did not create this thread to slam anyone including the builder, schreiter.  I apologze if that is what my intro conveyed, but I posted the link because it struck me as one of the totally interesting extremes that folks on this board and RGVAC (where I saw the post announcng the cabinet).  I think it is really cool that he built his cabinet the way he wanted to and he enjoys it.  It is an insanely huge cp and the sterring wheels are just over the top, but I am in admiration mode, not beratiog mode.  It may not be look like the arcade games I used to play, but I'll bet when his kids or nephews or friends see that thing they are in awe and have alot of fun with it.

schreiter posted this to RGVAC so he wanted it looked at and discussed, I am sure he can handle the act that a few folks seem to have a difference of opinion and/or taste.

I do appreciate the comments on the Omega cab very much and again I am sorry if the intro made it sound like a hanging, that was not my intent at all.

I still say you could land an f-15 on that thing though! ;D

Actually if you parked a 42" wide screen in front of that bad boy it would look right at home ;D  kudos to your engineering feat of getting all those controls on there and working!

Hmm.. that dude seems awfully familiar to that dude in the fake WTC pics.

2.5' deep?  As in from the front to the monitor?  Does that include the steering wheel?

no offense taken anybody...it's all good...

yep, that's the dude in the pic allright

the depth is actually a bit over 2' for most of it, there is a lip at the top that's about 2" and the wheels stick out about 4" or so.

Okay, there for a minute I was wondering if you used a billards bridge or something to access your admin buttons.  My arm is only about 25" long from tip to pit.  You're player 3 & 4 are a little too sideways for my taste.

How big is the monitor?  I wouldn't expect it to be over 27", but I'm hoping it's not less.  I'm in no way complaining, it's your CP.  Hell, you're talking to the guy that designed this (http://www.arcadecontrols.com/files/Uploads/mvs-4-25v3cp.png) thing.

i've got long arms... :P

1Hooked - Cool, I didn't mean to sound preachy. This thread had the possibility of turning into the fighting thread over 4 player panels when someone posted another person's panel saying "Who the %$#!%$#@% thought that this piece of #$%# looked good" and it turned into a huge heated argument.

Also, I didn't see the steering wheels at first, since the brightness of my monitor was turned down all the way. Infact, I only saw the 4 joysticks and buttons!
