Title: ultimarc trackball and mounting plate

do you need to buy the mounting plate for the ultimarc trackball if you buy the trackball?

If you don't have a metal CP, YES.

If you have a metal CP and can cut a whole in it, then no.

i'll have a wood cp, so i guess i'll have to buy it. :( more things to spend money on.

Can't you:
- take off the top part of the trackball case
- route out a hole in a wood CP (to match the top)
- bolt the bottom part of the case to the CP

If you did that you'd really have to spend a lot of time and effort rigging it up correctly, from what I can tell by looking at mine.

I would say it is worth the $14 that it takes to buy the mounting plate... in time alone. Plus, I think the results would turn out MUCH nicer.

It would probably be more work than the mounting plate yes. On the looks, I'd say it looks pretty good in the Mini-Multi-Williams hybrid (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=13366;start=0).

I also like to get the ball up a bit higher (so more of it sticks out on top of the CP) than it is inside the case.

Anyway, I still need to try this out once. Perhaps I'll fail miserably, but I'll try it anyway  :P
