Title: in the UK, (liverpool) looking for arcades with retro cabinets to play...
Post by: hunky_artist on June 13, 2004, 12:14:26 pm
Hi guys, I'm in Liverpool in the UK, and I'm starting a cabinet build this summer. I'm pretty certain of the design I'm going for (old style Taito ones) but I'm not 100%, and I'm not sure how tall to make it.

A lot of the ones on here I see are 6' and above, which seems way too big for me, I want a cabinet that reflects what I used to play as a  kid, so I'm looking for any arcades in the north west that still have some 'old' cabinets in.

I want to stand next to them to get a sense of size, and to play on them to feel how it feels for me as an adult to play on (whilst I want to replicate my memories, I dont want to give myself arm or backache!)

anybody in the UK know of any near Liverpool or anywhere in the north west that have any older cabinets in? (pacman, defender, galaga, taito style etc)

thanks!  ;D

Yeah me :)

To be honest I reckon you'll be lucky to find an arcade, never mind an arcade with old games...they are getting pretty few and far between...

6' is about right for many games.  My cab is a rough copy of Atari's System 1 design.  I used to play RoadBlasters as a kid, and that cab is 178cm tall, just under 6'.

What I would do is search the web for some dimensions - flyers at www.arcadeflyers.com often have the cabs dimensions on them...just look up the cab you are interested in copying.

Good luck :)

I know places up here like Southport and Blackpool have amusement arcades, I just dont know if any of them have any older machines...

I'll try what you said though, cheers
