Title: Do you put marquee retainer on top & bottom??
Post by: Pasqualz on June 12, 2004, 11:01:53 pm
Hi all, I just put my speaker panel on my cabinet and was ready to cut the Happ marquee retainer when a thought hit me. Do you put the marquee retainer on both the top and bottom of the marquee, or just on top?? I know that you can answer this by saying "It depends on how you want it to look. . ." but I'm more interested in how you put your marquee retainer on your cab! Thanks.

More of a 'depends on how you designed your cabinet.'

The Dynamo cab I have downstairs has a retainer on the bottom.  That's because it was designed with a groove on the top that the marquee slips into.

Different cabinets do it differently.

My Q*bert has a slot in the wood on the bottom, retainer on top.

My Moon Patrol, Buck Rogers, and Klax have retainers on top and bottom.

If you don't have a slot cut for the marquee plexi, go ahead and up retainers on top and bottom.

I built a Lusid Cab and put the retainer on both the top and bottom.  I used 2 screws to fasten the bottom part.  The top retainer snapped in and fit snuggly without any screws so I left it that way.

what they said, depends on your design.  Since I took alot of construction design from my Double dragon II cab (a dynamo) the marque runs up a groove and slips into a slot on the top and a retainer (canibalized from my double dragon II cab for now) is on the bottom holding the marquee up.

My uncle's generic cab that he has asteroids in has a retainer on top and on bottom.

I have the retainer on top.

My glass and marquee will slot into a aluminium groove near the speakers panel, and the retainer screws into the top.

Mine is an old Bally/ Midway cab. It has retainers on both the top & the bottom.

My cab is a generic with grooves cut into the actual wood that forms the top part and the bottom (below the marquee). I find it looks kind of dumb, cuz the marquee is pushed back over 1 1/2 inches.

You can kinda see it here: (http://www.retrofx.com/arcade/images/generic_cab_jan2004.jpg)

I'll probably end up buying some retainers (top and bottom) and mount the marquee up close to the edge of the wood like it should be. So IMO you need top and bottom, unless your cab already has a "lip" or groove.

Uh no, it's an original.

But hey, since this thread is about marquee retainers, where can i get a couple cheap? Like Cheap cheap. (I'm aware of Bob Roberts already).

Anyone have some loose spares?
