yea, I'll second ebay. I got my first set from there. Since I bought them I've seen some go really cheap and others really expensive. The nature of the ebay beast.

Nocturn,
I've got two that aren't being used right now if you are interested. These are the lighted Atari version with the black cone not the Midway version with the silver cone. I paid $14 for my two other unlit buttons so I'm looking for $20 shipped for these. Let me know.

Andrew,
I will send you an email if I run across any more. In fact, I think I looked at a couple of Dig Dug cabinets the other day that had them. I'll let you know.

I have them if the offer is high enough. I THINK I have one black cone one, and like 6 silver cone ones, all are Atari, none Midway.

Todd, only IF you run across them though, don't go Dig Duging for them ;) as I already have the four that I need for my 4P CP. Yes I know that there were no 4P CPs when volcano cone start buttons were used, but I just love the retro feel. I also paid a heafty price for two new-old-stock buttons (with no cones) and they look like they were made yesterday. The problem is that the lighted buttons that came with the other four I have look like they have been sitting at the bottom of the ocean since 1984. I am really in search for buttons that are in good shape. Since I have all the cones that I need for now, (actually I am already planning cocktail and cockpit cabs when I haven't even started the construction of the current upright project) so don't put yourself out. I'm kind of like you, I just snatch these things up when they pop up.....especially when they are new-old-stock.
I do have a question though. Should I be worried about switch replacements for these older switches? I know some people replace the lights in them, but what about the microswitch? Is it a standard part? Should I get my hands on at least one full replacement set? OR SHOULD I HORD THEM ALL FOR MYSELF??? J/K ;)
-
Wasn't someone going to do repro of these? Plastic cones I believe? Would be a lot cheaper to buy than the real ones i think.
-
Andrew,
Yes, I like using them as well. I have four on my cp now (see pic). I'm not too worried about the switches giving out since my cab sees light use compared to an arcade ;).....but, I do keep a couple around just in case ;D

I have been looking for these and if anyone is selling them let me know....

4 for 2P???? Is that for one for start and one for coin per player. I think you were just looking for any excuse to use more volcano buttons. ;)

Just curious, do you still have these?

There's a few ways to get these cone buttons for cheap. The best way is NOT through an auction that sells only the buttons. Everybody will find those listings and bid them up pretty high (usually).
What I did is I found some auctions for entire control panels. I bought a Sprint 2 control panel for $2. It had no steering wheels or shifters, but it did have 2 or 3 lit cone buttons (aluminum or "silver" style).
Then there's the broken Missile Command cocktail I got for $115. It has 2 lit cone buttons and 6 non-lit cone buttons. I'm trying to fix the cocktail, but if I can't, well, I'll have over $80 worth of cone buttons ;D
Also, if you don't care about them being lit, some alternatives are the flatter style of buttons used on Nintendo's "VS" cabinets.
For example here's one with 4 flat cone buttons: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=6103278577&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=6103278577&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)

I have 2 of these buttons with the red on the end of them. They got painted black, but I will take off the paint, as it is very cheap paint. One of the red parts of the buttons is cracked, but they both still work. I am looking to trade for some long microswitch buttons or new joysticks. I also have some red ball joysticks, 8 way for trade as well. Email me at mpatterson39@cogeco.ca if interested. Thanks.
P.S. Does anyone know how to remove the cone buttons. They seem to be one piece, and I don't know how to get it out without breaking it.

The black cone unscrews.... Then you get to unscrew another part inside, holding the button to the panel. Then it can be removed from underneath.

Specifcally, you have to start to unscrew the microswitch piece first. The cone is usually held in by notches. Once you unscrew the microswitch enough to clear the notch, you can unscrew it from the top.

All,
I have a pair of nice cone buttons (black with red light) that came off of a Space Duel CP. $30 shipped within the USA. PM me or email me at wakerlet@charter.net if interested.
