Title: Van Helsing?
Post by: Luxury on June 09, 2004, 06:23:53 pm
I know that this isn't really the place for it, but last night I went to a free screening for the movie.  After a nights rest, and a long work day, I am still so furious that such a movie was ever made that I post on this board.  I never rant.  Forgive me.

Who has seen this?  Did you like it?  I ask this rediculous question because some people I have talked to actually seemed to think that it was "O.K.".   I tried to laugh at how bad it was - but couldn't even do that I was so mad while watching it.  It wasn't just bad - it was absolutely painful.  I am so thankful I didn't pay money to see it.

To me, most movies are average.  Very few I would praise as "Good" or "Excellent", and very very few I would say are "Bad".  I would say 10% Bad, 65% Average, 20% Good, 5% Excellent.  This movie made me so angry that I have had to requestion my entire list of worst movies I have seen (and I take great pride in my personal "Best/Worst" lists).  While I do think many movies are bad - I have very few movies that I hate - as a matter of fact, this might be my first.

I have now sworn off summer films this year entirely (with 2 exceptions - clue: 1 is not Catwoman)

P.S. - Can't wait for the sequel!

lol. The anime was good.

Yeah I saw it twice. The first time I think that I was on crack. The second time I realized how ---smurfy--- it was. the dialog was just bad. lol. sooo melodramatic. Example:
"Why did you shoot at him?"
"He's not your brother anymore."
"If you KNEW, how come you still SHOT!?"
"It's NOT HIS FAULT!"
"BUT HE WILL STILL DO IT!!!"
lol its just wrong. I think that it looked cool though. Id see it for free, but don't pay 7 bucks.
2/10

um......well...sorry, but what do you expect when a movie lists "fictional characters" as the cast in posters and trailers?

"Hugh Jackman...Kate Beckinsale...Wolfman.....Frankenstein....and Count Dracula"

hold my hair while i bend over and puke....wait...i have a shaved head.....either way...

I'd like to nominate the entire cast (with exception to Jackman) for worst overacting of all time award.  Dracula, his 3 wives and Igor deserve special recognition.  Jackman gets nominated for the exact opposite award.

And I thought that it looked like crap too.  All the special effects were garbage except for 2 shots.  The shot of the Wolfman in the fire, and the shot right after that of the wolfman leaping over the fire.  Those shots looked amazing.

haha I saw the trailer for it and that was enough to tell me it was crap

I saw it.  I'll definitely give it an 'okay' because it was *just* okay.  Nothing special (except for the effects, they were quite good).  The story needed a LOT of work.

I can't complain too much, I got to see Kate Beckinsdale's ass in leather pants.  Mmmmm...leather pants...

And I spent $8.00 per person to see it (my wife and I).  I wanted to see Shrek 2.  She wanted to see that.  Afterwards, she said "That was the worst movie I have ever seen."  I asked her why she hadn't wanted to see Shrek, and she said she remembered the first one not being that funny.  So we'll have to rent it again to find out if her memory was impaired.

thats the only thing that I disagree with you about (the good looking part). It's obvious, to me, that they spent a lot of time and energy into finishing it. But yeah, everyone except for jackman overacted (yes even the friar).

Yeah if you were to cut out the dialog and replace it with just music it might be watchable. With one exception: Kate Beckinsale has the ass of a porn star.

Woohooo..

I thought the movie was allot of fun, as an 'old school' horror buff I had the idea that they were trying to make 'a neo classsic horror movie to compliment all classic horror movies'

I especially appreciate the tempo, there were hardly any brakes, fantastic for those of us that have short attention spans.

And the special effects were top-notch, I like the part when frankenstiens' monster's head opened up, he was such a ham, and they kept using him as a lightning rod through the whole movie, hilarious !

I dig it

It reminded me of seeing coppola's remake of Dracula in 1993 at the theatre.

I'm more interested in knowing what are the 2 exceptions you mentioned ??.....

I don't go to see movies anymore.... (maybe once or twice a yr...) since NYC... it will cost me almost $10....

and I'm trying to save $$...

so... I'm only going to Sun's first show.... and not in city... so.. it costs like $6... better... but compare to renting a dvd...
that's still far away....

ohh.... I think I'll only see Spiderman II.....
what is the other movie ??....

is star war coming out ??...
the first one is all hype and CG.... the 2nd one is boring...
I'm not very sure if I want to see the 3rd one...
(but its suppose to be better... right ??...)

but Matrix 2 & 3.... I think it sucks when compare to the first one....

ok.... Lord of the ring... all 3 are good...

I guess I'm typing too much ... lol...
I guess I'm bored...

Yeah, Spiderman 2 is one of them and the other is Garfield.

No really, the only other movie I am going to go see is Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

Further down the road, the only one I am interested in is The Incredibles.  Slim pickings this year.   >:(

Thanks for the warning.

I don't go to movies much either, Spiderman and Van Helsing were the two I was planning on seeing, now I'll plan on seeing Van Helsing when it's on cable and I have nothing else to do.

Another movie I wanted to see before it got horrible reviews was The Day After Next.  When David Letterman (once a real weather man) gives the star of the movie a hard time about the facts, you know it's ridiculous.

I really want to see The Stepford Wives, I love dark comedies; and The Cronicles of Riddick, Pitch Black kicked ass. I might see Garfield if my home family goes.

I liked it. Most Horror movies are kinda campy anyway. But the Frankenstine Monster was really cool.  I did like the vampire chicks.  It was really fun.

It's a must have DVD anyway.  I recommeded it to most of my friends and they all liked it.  I didn't hear anybody who didn't like it until now.

Well theres a difference here. Campy Horror movies (which VH isn't), try to be bad. This was just BAD.
