Suggestions/comments from all you experience cabbie builders is greatly appreciated ;D
I'm about to start my very first MAME cabbie.
The control panel design is base around a removeable concept.
But I want the main CP to be useable 90% of the time.
I got many good ideas from reading this forum and this is what I came up with.
4 Player Control Panel
P1 - 4/8 way joystick + 7 buttons (was 6 but most designs I see is 7)
P2 - 4/8 way joystick + 7 buttons
P3 - 4/8 way joystick + 4 buttons
P4 - 4/8 way joystick + 4 buttons
Center trackball + spinner with 2 buttons
NO Ms Pacman joy...plan to use P1 <good/bad???>
Also thinking of switching P1 & P2 joy for rotary joystick to play Ikari Warrior and such. If I do that, may have to add a Ms Pacman joy in center.
Besides the game controls, will have P1-P4 start, Exit, Pause.
Plan to hookup 4 coin slots for P1-P4 credits.
Thats it...did I miss anything important?

What buttons are you going to use with the trackball? If they are the spinner buttons, I'd recommend 3 buttons so you can play missle command. I use the top row of p1 for my trackball buttons.
I did not go with a 4-way joystick and I am ok with that decision. It really all depends on what games are most important to you. Some 4-way are not optimal with an 8-way joystick. It does take a little practice and getting use to. (Plus it gives me an excuse to build a cab for 4-way games someday :D)
I think that your CP may be in danger of being a little crowded. I'd like to see some blueprints or a prototype. Eventually, the best way to verify your cp is by making a cardboard prototype and trying it out.
Good Luck!
