my dad said he didn't have the tools to build the frame for the cab, so now we're going to get a friend to build the frame for us.

20 to 40 gig hard drive ( not exactly sure yet)
128 megs of ram
400 mhz
pentium 3
cd player w/speakers
15" monitor

i'll be gettinbg a new monitor... preferably 19+ inches. is newegg.com a good place for that? i'll also be adding a dvd drive.

After about 11 months, the cab is finally starting to be finished. The cabinet's frame has been built for a while, I just never ordered the controls until January, and was caught up in school work. As school just ended, we put together the control panel, and I just finished putting on a second layer of finish. We'll probably be starting the wiring Monday. I'm going with a realtively simple control panel, mainly only need three buttons for Metal Slug. I haven't gotten a larger monitor yet like I wanted, but it works, so I'm not complaining.

And another pic. The cabinets at the bottom of the cab may not look very arcadish, but they're there for 2 reasons: 1) I hate wasting space & 2) The guy who built the cab didn't really understand where the computer was going to go.

Just remember, whatever you do, TAKE YOUR TIME! Mame will be here when you finish. Nothing is worse than having a cab you're not happy with because you rushed it.

Man, if I wasn't happy about it, you'd be able to tell. I think the cabinets at the bottom are pretty nice. Now I just need to find something to put in them. Maybe I'll get one of those little refridgerators...

well the guy who built it for you is definately no amatuer- i think it is very nice. Although the cabinet doors are a departure from the typical cab, i think that is a plus since this site is all about doing something personal and unique.

Yeah, the guy who built it did a beautiful job. Make sure you infuse your personal flair where you can and it'll be sweet. You might also want to consider a marquee light. Hopefully that wood in the marquee area can be removed. If not, it's not a big deal, but something you can do to make it pop.

I'm actually considering not putting in a marquee. I like the all-wood look it has now. Plus, like you (dema) said, the wood might not come off. I also might mount the speakers in the cabinets instead of up top. Think that might be easier, since the top is already built.

What kind of joysticks are those?

The joysticks are Ultimarcs J-stick ball top. Another little piece of info about the cab- though you can't see it in those pics, I have an orange ping-pong ball that broke in half that I can put over the tops of the joysticks. But only if I ever get tired of the red (and even then, not for long as there is no way other than glue or some adhesive to make them stick on).
