Title: Building control panel, and later add an overlay? (how?)
Post by: sofakng on June 08, 2004, 08:03:43 am
I'm anxious to start building my control panel and I have a nice template already, but I'm wondering how I would later add an overlay?

The overlay's I particularly like already have button labels and such on the overlay so unless I re-build my control panel I don't see how it would work.

What are my alternatives?  In the Project Arcade book Saint says he printed a normal graphic and then added labels on top of it.  Is this possible?  Does it look good?

You have to strip all the buttons and joysticks off to put on an overlay.

If you want to do that, then you have to put labled quick connects on the buttons.

Any job worth doing is worth doing right.  Figure out some kind of overlay and put it on now.  Otherwise, you will be re-doing the thing later.

Where are some good places for overlays?

I've checked several websites (I forget the exact names), and I've e-mailed Frostilicious (but never got a response).

I don't want a real overlay (for example the one from PacMan), but instead I like ones such as:

I can't seem to find any like this though on the internet...

Have any suggestions?

Most overlays that are not replica's of a real aracde overlay are created from scratch by the arcade builder.  Hard to use someone else's overlay for your personal button layout - Unless you can download someone's overlay AND CP layout to match both up.
