That is the question, Im hedging on getting 4 controllers on my cab b/c Im worried with hooking the Ipac up to 4 coin doors that it will have weird effects
Hypothetically if I have 4 controllers and 4 coin doors (each hooked to my Ipac) and I invite my dimwit buddy over for gaming. If were in a 2 player game like MK1 and he puts his quarter in the 3rd or 4th slot instead of the 1st or 2nd will it just "eat" the quarter?
-
Nope. In most games of that nature, the Credit button has no effect on who can use the credit. IE... SF2 or MK1, if you press credit button 1 or 2, its just listed as a credit. Same will go for the other games.
You should be fine. ;)

Yeah but in MK1 it only takes credits that come from slots 1 and 2. If coins are put in the other slot will it reject them or will the mechs keep them?
-
The mechs will keep them, but you can set MAME to recognize those switches as coinups within those particular games.
-
Thats gonna be a lot of work, to change all 2 player games, since most games are 2 player. Im saving myself the hassle and going with 2 controllers

Alot of people just use a coinup button for the 3rd and 4th players.
You just put an extra button next to each of their player starts for the coinup.

But what if Im using coin doors wired through the Ipac, that would take away from the arcade feel

That's why you can set it for ALL the games and just modify the setup for the four player games you want to play. Should be a lot less work.

What do you mean

Are you gonna charge your buddies money to play your cabinet?

If you're worried about the feel of the aunthenticity, leave the coin box unlocked so if they stick the quarter in the wrong slot they can pull it back out and put it in the right one. Otherwise, just leave the whole coin door unlocked... It's not complicated...
Unless you plan on charging your friends to play games which IMO is pretty rude.
