Hi all, I have a very basic question and hopefully you can help me out. I've searched here and at mameworld.net and my guess is this was answer so long ago that it doesn't show up. Can someone explain to if there a major advantage playing neogeo games on kawaks or nebula versus mame? And along the same line, which is better kawaks or nebula? Thanks!
-
There isn't. In theory kawaks and nebula use lower system resources, but by today's standards you'd have to have a pretty ghetto pc before you'd need that extra boost. Kawaks and nebula are too different to compare that simply. Imo kawaks does better capcom emulation and nebula does better neogeo emulation. By better I mean more efficient. Both emulate the systems perfectly, as does mame.

Correction, mame doesn't do transparencies and memory card emulation for neogeo, kawaks and nebula do. They also can do the mvs type thing.

Transparencies are a hack, memory cards don't work, but save state does, so it's the same difference. I didn't mention those two because imo they aren't worth mentioning. :) I suppose mvs support is a nice feature though.

Followup Question: MVS?
-
The neogeo mvs (Multi-Video System) system.

Search ebay, you will find many answers to your question :)

isnt the most noticeable difference between nebula kawaks and mame the fact that Nebula does rasters better (ie it plays some Neo games like Super Sidekicks that mame doesnt do??) I never really bother with MAME as I am a hardcore Nebula user, its best CPS2/Neo emu with best sound and video options IMO although I use kawaks for online, I dunno, I never play super sidekicks anyway, but im sure there were something like this
