I am converting a butchered Guerilla war cabinet to a Mame machine. On the bottom of the coin box is a counter (looks like an odometer). I pulled it out and it has to leads going to it and says that it takes 12Vdc.
I thought that maybe it was some type of shock sensor to register coin drops but that doesn

its a coin counter. It tell the operator how much coins been drop since last. So he know exactly how much are in the bucket, so anyone has a key for it can't still some of his profit :)

It is indeed a coin counter and it's always a part of a JAMMA/AMOA compliant cabinet. Coin counting meters are required in some jurisdictions by local regulations/licensing requirements when the games are operated commercially.
