Title: shuffleshot - analog settings?
Post by: REBIRTH on June 04, 2004, 09:49:51 pm
Does anyone have Shuffleshot working well?  If so, what are your analog settings in Mame?

I am using the Microsoft Intellipoint (Intellimouse) drivers.  I have been fooling with the anolog speed/sensitivity and either the disc will not go up the board (stops by the 1 line) or it goes so fast up the board it falls off the back every time.  I can't get it so that it will go up the board but at a normal speed.  I found one other post that said to set the sensitivity at 20%, but doing that the disc will not go up the board at all.  It is like it needs a certain speed to actually move up the board, but once you get it fast enough to do that it will just fly off the back of the board.

Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure what trackball you are using, but I found it unplayable with anything less than a 3" arcade trackball (I have an Imperial/Betson).  Once I installed that it worked fine.

Speed 70
Sensitivity 50%

Make sure that acceleration is turned off in the intellimouse driver.

The Key/Joystick speed setting should have no effect on the trackball.

I have sensitivity set at 25% on both machines.

By the way, I was able to play Shuffleshot on my laptop using an Itellimouse TrackBall Explorer which is about a 1.25" ball.  I do better on my cab with a 3" Betson.

thanks for the help - I still can't get it.  I have a 3" Happ trackball, have acceleration turned off in the Intellimaouse driver.  My PC is a 2 GHZ with 640 mg Ram.

The Key/Joystick speed setting should have no effect on the trackball.

The speed and sensitivty are the analog settings in the game, not the key/joy speed.

I am talking about the analog controls.  I'm not sure if the screen looks the same in every version of MAME.

When I hit the tab key and select 'Ananlog Controls', the first setting is 'Track X Key/Joy Speed'.  This setting controls the speed of a simulated trackball when using the keyboard or joystick in place of an actual trackball or spinner.  It has no effect on an actual trackball.

The other setting beside sensitivity that will effect how the trackball works in MAME is the speed settings in your intellimouse driver.

I gotcha, never noticed they said key/joy.  Thanks... still can't get it to work right though   :(

I checked my Intellimouse settings, on the motion tab, I have speed set exactly in the middle, acceleration is turned off.

In mame the sensitivity is 25%.

Just in case you haven't tried it, try using the 'No Wax' setting. (Press player 1 button 2 to change the wax setting).

I will check the Intellimouse speed when I get home, i didn't touch that.  I have tried playing with No Wax to slow it down, but 90% of the time it still flys off the end of the board and that Canadian guy announcer yells at me to slow down >:(

hope you find a solution, have the same problem, the discs just abruptly stops.  couldn't figure it out myself.

thanks,

Nope still the same thing.  The puck will go faster or slower, so the settings are changing the speed - but still either the puck stops at the 1 line (whee you would let go of the puck if you were actually playing, it is as if there is an invisible line there that the puck will not cross) - OR - the puck will cross but will fly off the back of the table (with no wax and only pushing just a tiny bit faster than when it doesn't move at all).  I am very upset...!!!!  thanks for the help anyway  :-[

For the people who do not have issues with this game:

- what version of MAME are you running?
- what sort of PC are you running?
- What mouse driver are you using?

Thanks!!!!!

NoNameMAME 0.76u2.11 unde Windows 2000 Pro (I also had it working under Win98se)

Not that this helps any, but count me as another having the exact same issue.

My "workaround" was to hold the joystick in the up position before shooting.  This moved the puck to where it was getting stuck.  Then, while holding the joy up, I could use the trackball to throw with control.

Not real elegant.

I did soem testing, trying to figure out how to recreate the issues you guys are getting.

So far I have found theat the puck stopping means that you are not getting enough speed.

I have never played the real game, so I am not sure how it feels, but in MAME there seems to be a very narrow range between to much spoin and too little.

With more practice I have been able play the game even when using the "slick" wax setting.
