Title: Dimensions for control panel?
Post by: Dougmeister on June 02, 2004, 01:56:43 pm
Got a "Space Duel" cabinet, no control panel.

Ordered my joysticks, buttons, etc.

Found some 3/4" fine particle board that might do for my first attempt at a control panel.

Is there an easy way (existing template, etc.) to measure & cut the control panel or is it going to be a job where you have to measure the existing cabinet, draw up plans, etc.?

Get your tape measure out and go to town.  I am not aware of any premade templates but even if there were, would you really want to use them?  Be creative and use your imagination to make it happen.

Good luck

Ok, thanks.  Thought I'd ask 'cause every time I start looking, I find all *kinds* of stuff out there that someone else has done before!

instead of using particle board as a first try why not try foam board

I agree, foam board works great, is cheap (Wal-Mart), and works as a GREAT drilling template (have to clean your hole saw out more frequently, but that stuff holds up great to drilling)  :)

Hmmm... then once I get the shape and the holes the way I want 'em, just use it as a template for the real thing?

Exactly...that's what I did anyway...just clamp it down to the wood control panel and commence drilling  :)...seems to be a little more sturdy then regular card board, but that's just my personal experience...
