Got my 2 1/4 inch happs translucent RED trackball today. It is the correct part number but it sure looks orange. I mean orange orange! Anyone else with this trackball that can confirm this? I can live with orange but redder is better.
-
get red led lights for it. that will fix your problem
-
Have you tried looking at the trackball while it is lit?
-
They light up more red than they look unlit.
The blue ones are the opposite.
They look MORE blue when unlit, and turn greenish-blue when lit.
-
When lit:
Red still looks orange.
Blue looks very blue.
I wonder if they vary by lot?
-
For me blue looked aqua-green when lit, until I started using the superbright blue LED's. Then DAMN was it blue. I assume the same for the red, walls is probably right.
-
My 3" red translucent looks very orange when unlit, but when lit looks fire engine red which is exactly the color I would want (matches the red buttons). I am lighting it with 4 superbrite LED's.
Below is a picture of the one panel of mine which contains this ball (lit up)....

Hmmm, I should try some led's i suppose. Where do I get em? What about a socket, probably won't work in my bayonet socket, eh?
-
Socket? What? As for the LED's, they are awesome - but beofre I bought them just shining a strong flashlight under there produced a good red color. If you can shine a strong light through there and it is still orange then i would complain to Happs. it is hard to get a good beam of light in there though, so make sure you are able to do when testing it.
I got my LED's from Glowire http://www.glowire.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=G&Product_Code=4CLWCM&Category_Code=CM (http://www.glowire.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=G&Product_Code=4CLWCM&Category_Code=CM) They connect right to a spare power plug in your PC.

I noticed that Bob Roberts has both a "Red" and "Cherry" colored trackballs. I was wondering myself which would look better. I'm thinking the "Cherry" may end up looking pink when lit.

Well the red from Bob looks damn orange when unlit, with light it looks more red, but I wish I had gotten cherry now. I went with red b/c I was rebuilding my Crystal Castles and the original had red...

I suggest wiring the LED's up yourself with a spare molex connector. You may have to maneuver your way through this but you can get that information on my site.

Also pick a LED color that you want the translucent item to replicate. A blue trackball will look blueish/green when lit with a white LED. I can imagine a red trackball being a light orange color when light shine through. Instead get a blue LED for a blue trackball...etc. Also you can get your LED's at superbrightleds.com (http://superbrightleds.com) the selection is vast and the illumination of the high powered 6 HED LED's is fantastic. If you are not familiar with resistors and such just get the 12-volt socket type very simple to install.
