Title: Happ Trackball to mouse hack?

I have looked around quite a bit and found mostly broken links, so, where can I find some real good info on hacking a Happ trackball to a mouse?

The links on byoac.com about hacking a mouse should work.  Hmmmm, unless it's a ploy by saint to buy his book.  j/k :)


It isn't that hard though.  though i think, for the price, it would be easier to buy the prehacked mouse form oscarcontrols.com.

While we're on the subject, can an Ultimarc trackball be used with a mouse hack like the Happs? I am looking to buy one soon and would like to be sure.

I'm sure they are, but they always come up HTTP404.  Any alternate links?

Did you use the same power hack as this guy or did you get the power from the mouse?

I drew my power directly from the computer's power supply.

How can I get power from the mouse?  I am making a stand-alone trackball and do not want to have to modify my computer case to do it.  Would it be easier to just get a 5v AC adapter that plugs into the wall or is there a way to get the power from the mouse to the trackball?

If you go USB, you can pull the 5v directly from the USB line.

Long story short, yes you can get the power directly from the mouse, but you have to make sure that  where you tap into the +5V at has enough juice to power both sets of optics.

I don't know.

Unless there is a big difference in draw between the standard mouse optics and the trackball optics, I would THINK it would work.
