D'oh!  It would only figure!

Last week I ordered two Happs Super joysticks... and now they put the 360's on sale?

Should I return my two supers and get P360's instead?  Will they even accept a return?

(In case it matters, I'm looking to play fighting games like Marvel vs Capcom and side-scrollerss like Metal Slug)

Someone ought to convince Bob Roberts to start carrying these.  That'd be a nice price to stock up on them.  Afterward he could sell them at $35 a pop and make a really nice profit while still providing a very sustantial savings.

I haven't really done enough business with him - just one small order about six months ago.

Do these sales prices apply to people in Europe?  Is this a Happs Europe website?   ???

I'm planning on putting a couple of these in my CP, so was thinking that now might be the best time to buy them.

If anyone can advise me, a UK-based person, on how to order these I'd be very grateful.

Don't you need extra stuff to run P360s?  Just wondering since I didn't want to order then find out that I needed a specail controller for them to link up with my PC.

You just need voltage.  5v to be exact.  You can run a power supply feed from your PC to allow it to be powered.

Is the P360 that great?  I was getting ready to buy a set of Ultimates or Comps - but after reading all this - I am think about spending the little extra (nice sale price) and get a pair of P360s.  Do they handle better than the Ultimate/Comp?

Is the P360 that great?

I'm wondering the same thing.  Once I get out of work today (4:30 pm EST), I'm going to call Happ's and ask if I could return my 6-day old never-been-used Happs Super Joysticks and exchange them for P360's instead.

Primarily I play fighting games (capcom fighters), side-scrollers (Metal Slug) and shooters (DoDonPachi)...

So, are the P360's better than the Supers for the games I've mentioned?

Don't arcade versions of KI and KI2 use optical sticks?

Hmmm... Well, I called Happs today to return my Super Joysticks and the lady was really nice.  They didn't charge me a restocking fee or anything.

The bad news is that the lady said the P360's are on backorder.  She said it would probably be 30 days (!!!) before they are back in stock.

However, the web site says "In Stock: 6/9/04".  So I'm REALLY  hoping that the lady was wrong and the web site was right.

This will delay the construction of my cabinet for a month or more!  (ack!!)  Oh well.

Lets hope for the best!

Well, since I duped this topic I'll take time and respond to the various questions here on the P360...

Yes, that is a good price. Most on the forum consider these the top model to purchase for most purposes; mainly for fighters or general purpose. Howerver, I use them for almost all of my sticks including the 4-way (the dead diagonals really don't show up on this guy that much). I'm now considering getting some more and frankensteining a top-fire and optical rotary with these since the price is right.

There are 4 terminal contacts on the bottom and two wires soldered to the optic board. The 4 contacts are up/down/left/right and hook right to your keyboard encoder (hagstrom, ipac, etc.). The other two are GND and +5V that needs a power source. The 5V from your power supply is ideal  I wouldn't drag this off another encoder or other supply that comes from the USB chain.  Safe best to wire directly to the PS you use.

Not sure which machines these come stock on, but more than likely any current game that isn't using leaf switches (yeah right) that don't click are probably these or another optical pickup style stick.

I bought 3 of these less than 6 days ago, and I've got a call into happs refund center to see if they'll give me a refund of the difference. Will update when I hear back tomorrow.

unfortunately there is only US prices on the website.

suggest you call Happ UK sales directly for a quote (contact details on the website) or email donna in sales dept at donna@happcontrols.co.uk - note you might have to remind them that they are on offer on the website.

sometimes they do honour US sales items - however don't expect a direct conversion from US to UK prices.

I considered getting a Vision Pro monitor from them last month that was on sale - the price they said they could let me have was nearly equivalent of $1 =

sorry but a bit new to optical joysticks? what exactly are they?

are they like analog joysticks? hence the "360" name?

what are their advantage over regular 4/8 way (micro/leaf switched) joysticks?

are there specific games that need these type of joysticks?
Title: Re:YAY ! p360 on sale again 0_0
Post by: NoOne=NBA= on June 02, 2004, 09:07:01 pm
The P-360's are an 8-way that uses optics, rather than conventional switches, to detect movement of the stick.
The top half is very similar to a normal Happs stick; but the actuator doesn't contact anything on the bottom, so the stick swings around in circles with no corners--thus the name PERFECT 360.
The advantages to the optic system are no clicking, no corner hangups anywhere, and no mechanical wear from switches being contacted.

They are NOT like an analog stick, in that they don't send data based on how FAR they are moved from center.
That is where the 49 way sticks come in.
The 49-ways are very similar in operation to the P-360, but have more sensors in them.

The P-360 is uses a 3x3 matrix, so it detects the stick as either right/center/left and up/center/down.
The 49 way is a 7x7 matrix, and detects up3/up2/up1/center/down1/down2/down3 and left3/left2/left1/center/right1/right2/right3.

This allows the 49-way stick to function as an analog stick with a proper adapter.
TRUE analog sticks use a 256x256 matrix, so the 49-way, though similar, is not as precise.

Well, my joysticks were placed on backorder so you should be able to order them now and get the sales price.  When they will ship though, I'm not sure.  I've e-mailed them to try to get some info from somebody who might have a better estimated shipping date.

AlanS17:  You mentioned the joysticks sucking for 4-way games.  Why not use a P360 for your main joystick(s) and a dedicated T-Stick Plus (or whatever) for your 4-way games?

Okay now I'm intrigued... but I have a quick question two questions.

Since I have to hook this up to a 5 volt connection is it possible to daisy chain these connections on the P-360s (like the ground) or does each need its own seperate connection?

And another - since I'm doing the swappable panel thing can I easily incorporate a 5 volt connection into the same plug as the rest of the connections (say a 50 pin Centronics)?

BTW sorry if this has been addressed before.  I did do a search and came up with nothing satisfactory.

rchadd,

I did phone them directly (see a number of posts up).  The bird I spoke to said that when you order over the 'net, the order goes to the US, but they then send it to her, here in the UK.

So, it's not possible for us to order from the US, we have to do it from the UK and pay whatever prices Happs Europe are offering.  I was told that the current sale price on the P360s is about

Can anybody comment a little more on Perfect 360's?  As I mentioned earlier, I've returned my two Happs Super Joysticks and I'm anxiously waiting for my Perfect 360's to arrive.

Now, I've never used either of them, but I've read that the P360's are generally the best all-around and since they were on sale it seemed like the right thing to do.

I'll be setting up my control panel as soon as I receive these joysticks (a couple of weeks), but in the meantime... Can anybody say anything else about the P360's?  (generally I play fighting games, shooters, etc)

I will also a dedicated T-Stick Plus for 4-ways.

need a little bit more information on the P360's if anyone has them, since I can't seem to find them myself. I need the measurements of the mounting plate if anyone has them, if they're comparable/the same as the t-stik from ultimarc's mounting plate. I ordered the T-stik's, but since i'm going to be primarily playing fighting games and the p360's have gone on sale.. I want to put my t-stik's in for now, then install my p360's when they come in. Anyone know? :)

They don't have a mounting diagram at Happs for this stick, but the pictures they have of it leads me to believe it uses Happs standard mounting holes.

If this is the case, it will NOT use the same mounting holes as the T-stik.
The T-stiks have a very narrow base on them, as compared to the Happs sticks.

Use the super as your basis for comparison:

http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/super_joy_e.htm (http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/super_joy_e.htm)

as the l x w x h dimensions of the stick are almost identical. I'd say the mounting plate is about 1/8" thinner vertically, but that is pretty inconsequential. I own both and just did a side-by-side comparison and the eclip and stick connectors line up on the bottom of the sticks if they're mounting plats are aligned. Attached is a rough side by side of a super topfire (same dimensions, just has a microswitch on the bottom) next to a p360. I'll attach a scan of the Instructure card Happ included with the P360 on the next post

Hope they help

Can anybody tell me what router bits (and/or drill bits) I would need to mount the p360 from under the control panel?  I'm assuming thats how I want to mount them because I want them to be as hidden as possible (the mounting section).

Also, what router/drill bits would I need to mount a T-Stick Plus?

Appreciate all the info folks, thanks. :) Hopefully these things will be getting put together soon and my control panel will be all nice and dandy, but then again I have one more issue apparently, which is the 5v of power. Apparently DaveMMR asked this earlier but never got a response :( I'm looking to just get a 5v power supply for the sticks, is there enough power to daisy chain them or what, or rather even, How many amps the sticks require? This info would be greatly appreciated, thanks. :)
Title: Re:YAY ! p360 on sale again 0_0
Post by: NoOne=NBA= on June 07, 2004, 09:15:46 pm
You can daisy chain them, but I would do it off the computer's power supply just to be safe.

There are other places you COULD pull the 5v from; but, not knowing the current draw and specs on those spots, you'd be safest just to get it directly from the computer.
Title: Re:YAY ! p360 on sale again 0_0

Well see the thing is here, What started off as an arcade cabinet, has turned into "Oh, I don't have the room for the arcade cabinet, let's just build the sticks because I already bought them." So i'm making these sticks widely accessible, going to my xbox, ps2, and pc for that matter. So it's not just going to be into the computer itself, so I can't rely on that power source alone :(
Title: Re:YAY ! p360 on sale again 0_0
Post by: NoOne=NBA= on June 08, 2004, 12:03:40 am
You're going to need an auxiliary source then.
If you can find out how much current everything you want to use (sticks, trackballs, spinners, etc...) will draw, give it at LEAST 25% for headroom, and you should be good.
Then you can pick up a power supply from Radio Shack, or wherever, and power it all.
Title: Re:YAY ! p360 on sale again 0_0
Post by: Drkshadow on June 09, 2004, 08:43:30 pm
Yeah, we figure on the power source. But that's why I was asking, if anyone knew how much current the 360's drew. All that's going to be in these sticks onw are just the 360's and the buttons, now we're going to wire them up to a PS controller.. The PS2 controllers have varying voltages inside so we can't use that for power, but the PS1's supposedly have a standard voltage. But we'll see, the point is. Anyone know how much current the 360's draw? :)

I own 2 super's in my cab and have a question about these:

- the problem with my supers is that they are super sensative.  If I hit to the left and let go.  A left, right, left is registered (as the joystick is bounced back and forth!)  Will these joysticks be the same?

- Will they mount in to the same holes as my supers?

Most of the time no. If you pull full diagonal, I tend to get a left right out of it, but it's rare I actually let go of the stick in a corner. Why are you doing it? :)

when I'm in MAMEWAH and I press down, it registers as down, up, down!  So I changed the MAMEWAH sensativity.  But what about the MAME sensitivity!?
