Title: ArcadeVGA + WG D9200 combo
Post by: Matt, GoC on May 30, 2004, 10:11:01 pm
According to the ArcadeVGA FAQ it seems this might be a good setup for a cab.
Anybody have this setup?  I wanted to get input on some things:

1) Can it do the most amount of authentic arcade resolutions?  Are there many games that have to be stretched?

2) How clear is the picture at interlaced resolutions?

3) How impressed are you with the setup?  I want to go all out for my cab but don't wanna spend a lot of money for something that will disappoint.

4) How well does DOS video modes work?  I have a few games that I wanna throw on that are dos-based.

5) can the 3d capabillities of the ArcadeVGA chipset do most 3d games justice?

Thanks.

I'll jump in with the one I can answer, no it sucks.  It's a 7500, like 6 year old 3D... no good for any newer games and really new games won't run at all.  Some older 3D games will run OK b/c the resolution is maxed out at 800x600 but that's the best you're gonna get.

Thanks for the info!  I really only wanted to play at most Duke Nukem Manhatten Project on it.  Other games like Quake 2 & 3 and Unreal Tournament should be ok since they play well on a Voodoo3 card on a 350 MHz PC.  Who knows?  By the time I can actually afford a monitor and ArcVGA card, maybe there will be a better card... (hope).

There is nothing wrong with arcade VGA for older 3D games and lets face facts if your building an arcade machine who cares about the lastest 3D cards and games.

Also WG9200 only runs at 600x800 at max great for arcade games and windows but I wouldn't want to play new games at that res anyway.
