Title: 8-way vs. 4-way joysticks
Post by: Dougmeister on May 30, 2004, 09:21:20 pm
Anyone have a nice link showing the wiring differences underneath?

In my newbie way of thinking, the 4-way would have 8 wires coming from it and the 8-way would have 16 (2 for each direction).   Is that right or wrong?

Nope, same number of wires

Only difference is the actuator on the 8way is able to register two directions at once (left and up, etc) where the 4way can only hit one direction at a time.

As far as wiring goes, its the exact same for both types.

They're essentially the same. An 8-way still only has 4 switches. The diagonals result from hitting two of the switches smultaneously. A 4-way prevents you from hitting the diagonals.
