OK so I was pretty desperate to get a real 2 way for my Defender/Stargate panel but paying more than $50US kinda put me off. Even when I finally bit the bullet and ordered one from www.arcadeshop.com I got a reply saying sorry out of stock permanently.
I have an idea for a 2 way joystick based on the MsPac/Galag stick with the sides shaved off and properly restricted to just 2 directions. I was thinking of a design that could be mounted in both wood and metal CP's ( not too difficult ) and with choice of either red or black ball top. It will cost me a fair amount to get a plastic molding company to adapt the original but the other parts are readily available.
My question is this how much real demand is there for a very good 2 way?
Personally I would pay approx $30-$40US for one and would probably buy just one. What about you? Just want to guage the need before I spend the cash.
Thankyou

There are already sticks out there that can be restricted to true 2-way operation.
Was there a specific criteria you were looking for that these aren't meeting?

Number 1 was getting the right installation on a Defender panel and number 2 was having a short shaft ball top. If you can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

A lot of old cocktail games from 79-82 had 2-way joysticks which were basically IDENTICAL to the Defender Stargate joystick. They can be found without too much trouble, and the player 2 stick is usually in like new condition. I have a couple of these, and they will take the Defender repro knob and handle if you drill one hole in the thing slightly larger.
Also, there is what I did with my Defender. I simply used a Wico microleaf, cut a slot in the wood to restrict the movement, also turned the side microswitches around backwards to further doubly restrict the movement.
