Title: The BYOAC Bottom 100
Post by: Richy on May 27, 2004, 01:25:07 pm
To counteract the top 100, heres the bottom 100, for games that are so bad, they're worth downloading.
Here are the rules
Only 10 Votes instead of 20.
No mahjong or games which nobody knows how to play.
Games must be working. (No voting for games with missing sound or glitchy graphics)
I'll keep track of the votes and update the table occasionaly.

Games that are so bad they're worth downloading?  That's a toughie.  Movies that are so bad they are worth watching are because they are entertaining in the exact opposite of the way they're meant to be.  Games that are bad, on the other hand, are pretty much not fun to play by definition, so there's little reason to put them on a cab.

Now if we're thinking in terms of games that you would never spend a quarter for but are diverting in their own quirky way, let's see... I've actually grown fond of Lasso, which I don't think is gonna make anyone's Top Ten list.  That's about all I can think of.

1.  Circus
- Yes, I know it's a classic in it's own right, but it has incited more laughter among my girlfriend's friends than any other game out there.  There's usually plenty of laughter and then "This is so stupid!"  Meanwhile, they keep playing.

2.  The Amazing Adventures of Mr. F. Lea
- Pure badness, plain and simple.  It's ugly and poorly named.

3.  Fantasia
- I'm not talking about Disney stuff here.  I just don't get this one.

Sorry I've only got 3 I can think of, but I'm probably blocking out some others.  Pretty much any of the dirty games could make this list.  I just don't see the appeal, I guess.

EDIT:  Oh, I almost forgot "The Main Event".  Cheesiest wrestling game ever.

1 - Hunchback! (must've been a pacman or DK clone)
2 - Eyes (rockola)
3 - Gorf (hated it because i couldn't get past the 3rd screen!)
4 - Popeye
That's all I can think of right now. I gotta admit, I loved most of the video games regardless of how bad they were!

1. WWF Wrestlemania (NBA Jam meets an already outrageously unreal genre, good plan...)
2. Rastan 2 (wow! this sucks..)
3. (The game where you play as Journey)
4. (that game where you are in a rollerskate race)
5. Super High Impact Football
6. Trival Pursuit (all editions)
7. Moonwalker
8. Tattoo Assassins <sp>
9. Superman
10. Shadow Dancer (Shinobi 2, what a let down)

Rastan 2
SpyHunter 2
Tattoo Assassins
Legend of Joe -whatever-  another horrid game

There are a bunch of clones out there that just suck... So bad that I just mark them with a 0 and never looked back.

note:  bad entries above
MoonWalker??? THATS THE BEST!  I've had MoonWalker parties!  (everyone has to drink when he dances)

In no particular order (and I'm sure not all inclusive)...

Let's see... ummm:

1. JOURNEY -- The classic of all bad videogames.  LCD Wristwatch-style gameplay and a completely lame story ("Let's travel around the universe and get our instruments!", cried Steve Perry with a shriek that seems to piece my cochlea) compliment the eye-gouging graphics.

2. PENGO - If you love listening to Hot Butter's Popcorn (or Popcorn's Hot Butter - I dunno) while pushing blocks into deadly things then... well... this is still a pretty horrible game.

3. BAD DUDES VS. DRAGON NINJA - Quick!  Call those two muscle-heads from the gym.  We've misplaced Reagan.

4. KID NIKKI: RADICAL NINJA - Sequel to the unreleased and little known "Little Spanky: Gnarly Hitman"

5. DOMINO MAN - The end result of the idea well running tragically dry.

6. CRYSTAL CASTLES - The only video game I know of where you can actually let the bad guys help you complete the level.

7. MOONWALKER - Help Michael collect the children.  It seemed wrong then and it's even more wrong now.

8. MAPPY - Another cutesy character trying to jump on the Pac-Man bandwagon of merchandise with all the fun you'd expect a trampoline simulator to have.

9. TWIN EAGLE - REVENGE JOE'S BROTHER - It should be 'Avenge' shouldn't it?  And who's Joe?  And what happened to his brother?  You'll come for the heavy metal music - you'll stay because you're numb from boredom.

10. CITY CONNECTION - There's just a lot of sheer lunacy in this game - probably more than my dictionary of sarcasm can handle.  What's up with having to wait 10 seconds before each life?  And what's with my car pieces turning into hearts?  And the cat - how does running it down cost me a life?   Pointless fun!

EDIT GAHHHH!  How can I forget CHILLER?  The single game that made me despise that Exidy ever existed.  All shock value with 'peek-a-boo' gameplay.  If you're keeping score at home, you can substitute this game with... err... I don't know... Mappy I suppose.

NOTE TO THOSE THAT ARGUE THESE CHOICES:  Keep in mind I picked mostly cheesy games that are still worth a play or two.  Yes, City Connection is remembered fondly by some but I still say the game is pretty 'out there' - thus its inclusion on the list.  Same goes for Bad Dudes.  They are all 'must play bad games' - not 'avoid at all costs bad games'.

I have played a lot of bad games but fortunately I don't remeber their names except...

1. Snacks'nJaxson - worst trackball game ever.

Any of the porn games are just plain disturbing. Is there any girl on there that DOESN'T look less than 14?

Moonwalker is probably an example of so bad you need it on your cab just to show people it exists. Although it falls under the disturbing category too.

That's the problem with these lists, both top and bottom.  I'm easily offended by the opinions of my peers  >:(  ;)

Mappy bad?  Wha?  PENGO BAD?  WHAAA?  No no no.  Even Speed Coin has some merit.  And Chicken Shift is pretty good as well.

Here is a list of games that stand out as bad in my mind (not just lame):

Legend of Success Joe

Tattoo Assasins

Chiller (the worst game ever)

All DECO cassette games except Burgertime and Bump N Jump

You're absolutely correct on Chiller -- I amended my list somewhat.  And here's my problem with Pengo: too hard to get the hang of at first but then little interest remains once you get better (plus the music fits about as good as polka tunes at a funeral).  Just my pair o' coppers on that.

Remember: your milage may vary.

Screw the bottom 100 idea. it's too hard for people to agree on, so just post games you hate.

Good idea, the bottom 100 was a bad idea.

When some of the games mentioned on this list were released, I would spend all my money on them and walk away wishing I could play again.

When I was your age <crud, I'm old enough to say that> I thought pinball machines were useless.

It's all relative.

You are partially correct about Pengo--Popcorn.  But I grew up with the other version with the better music so it's a personal fave.
