Title: 99.9% Finished *updated 9/1/04*
Post by: sjgrover on May 23, 2004, 10:51:45 pm
For the benefit of any newbies/lurkers out there (like myself) who aren't sure if this is something they can pull off, I thought I'd show my progress so far.

The control panel is esentially complete - it's designed to function as either a desktop unit or as the CP for the mini cab I've started.  I'll admit it's a little busy with buttons but this panel was intended to be a learning project so I was playing around with as many options as I could fit in the available space.  MDF is cheap so who knows what may change in the future.

The mini-cab took one day to go from design, to what  you see here although I expect progess to slow down considerably from this point ... I don't know how many marathon building sessions I can get away with

How big is the monitor?

Im guessing 17" or maybe 19", but I doubt it's more than that...

It's a 17" monitor.   The cabinet is 48" tall.   The top of the control panel is 26" high, which just by coincidence, works well with the chair in my office.

Very cool. I was thinking about making one of these for my nephew. Can't wait to see the finished product...

Painting completed.  The colors are based on pixelhuggers blue/orange atomic MAME graphics which will incorporated onto the sides and marquee.

Subtle?  Not really, but I wasn't looking for something that blends in.  I'll have to redo the control panel however as the black won't work with the new color scheme.

That's dope. I love it. Was it hard to get the t-molding around the corners?

It went around the 90 degree corners better than I hoped it would.  At least it turned out well enought that every time I look at it I won't be thinking, "I wish the molding had turned out better ..."

With those colors, scap the atomic mame logo, that is just screaming for a giant Chicago Bears logo or maybe Chief Illiniwek!

It seems like it took forever to take the last steps, but for all intents and purposes, it's done.  Since June the control panel was rebuilt, bezel and graphics added.

Sadly, I get to play it less than anybody else.  My wife has logged 12 hours of Frogger alone.
