I searched for this but couldn't find an answer.
When people ask me what the heck I'm building in the garage, I just take them to my PC fire up Mame32 and give them a quick demo of some of the games.
The problem is that almost every time windows switches my view back to the desktop about a minute into the game. I can alt + tab to get back into the game and then it never does this again.
I'm planning on using Mamwah or Ultrastyle as a front end in my cabinet when it's completed so it won't be an issue then but it sure is frustrating.
Has anybody seen this behavior before?
Keywords (for others searching for this since it's hard to describe): Mame32 abrupt exit switch screen winxp

I'm thinking you might be hitting the windows key.

That's what I thought too at first but even when I've been REALLY careful, it still happens occassionally.
I just fired up a game and hit the windows key a couple of times. Nothing happened.

Is it bringing up the sticky keys box? If so, shut stiky keys off.

Well, I know it's not the windows key.
I had a party tonight so I put my PC into my cab and connected up the speakers and cp. I also used an old keyboard with no windows key. We played several different games. One time it switched back to the desktop. I alt + tab back into mame32 and it was fine again.
No sticky keys issues either.
Any more suggestions?

You may what to check (and possibly remap) your default keyboard configuration.
The default configuration can do weird things.
In particular the <Alt> and <CTRL> combinations
For example
<alt><TAB> switch window
