Title: Best place to buy a PC
Post by: WildcatBob on May 20, 2004, 09:10:31 pm
Anyone have an opinion on where the cheapest (and best) place to buy a used or refurb system.  I am looking for something in the 1 Gig range to play mostly "old school" arcade MAME games.  I was hoping to stay below $250

For the price, this is a great deal, if you dont have any spare parts.  i'm sure theres better out there, but I just put one of these together for a friend, its about $15 bucks for shipping

Actually tiger direct is pretty good when your looking for cheap but I've heard that rebates are sometimes hard to get.

Also check out Newegg (http://www.newegg.com) and Computer Geeks (http://www.computergeeks.com)

I took a survey of old parts I had laying around and found that I had plenty of PC133 RAM. Bought a motherboard that could use this RAM and AMD XP2000 CPU from newegg for a total of 100 bucks.

I just bought a new system from tiger direct about 3 months ago for mame and emulator gaming. Sent in my rebates, still have not got them but did get am email saying it'll take 6-8 weeks... we'll see i guess.  And from the Canadian site if you spend $200+ you get free shipping. Over all rather happy with the experiance from tiger.
