...are they fun to own? or are they just a pain to keep them maintained?
...does anyone have one?
...they always seemed cool to me but they're pretty bulky.

I have 2 skil-stops. I like 'em. Never had to do any maintanence on mine, and mine are older models. They have some pretty damn cool ones these days.
P.S. can be converted to quarters in about 2 minutes. 8)

I have one that I got for free. My kids liking pumping the tokens in and hitting payout more than actually playing. I think it's totally boring.
Most of my guests don't even bother playing, if they do, it's usually less than a minute.
I think Howard said the thrill is gone because it's not real money, that's true in this case.
I also have a real Video Poker that gets some use, but I tell people it's for real. It takes quarters and paper money, and if they lose, oh well ;D But if they win, I pay. It gets alot of play when I host the neihborhood poker games. I've never had to pay the $1000 prize :o, but I have paid $100.
BTW, if they really want to play for free (like my mom), then that's ok too.

Could you elaborate on this. I have some friends who know I build / tinker with coin-op games and they want me to convert their machine to quarters for them.
I haven't really taken the time to look at the coin mechs. Most of my experience is with 20 year old stuff.
Thanks,
Rocky

its easy to do. just open the front of the game. watch the quarter as it goes through the coin mechs. you will see it drop through the chute and fall out before they get to the actual coin mech. all you do is cut a piece of thick paper the same size as the hole in the bottom side of the chute and tape it in place. the quarter wont fall out and it will go thru the mech and be counted. it really does only take about 2 mins. i would really suggest buying tokens though because it takes a minimum of 500 tokens/quarters per machine or you have to open it all the time to put more in the hopper and that can get expensive. you can get 1000 tokens for $62.50 shipped from http://pachisloshop.com/HTML_Items/tokens.htm i've bought twice from them and all the tokens are the same kind. unlike the guys who sell them on ebay. those guys sell mixed bags of all different looking tokens. hope this helps.
