Title: Focus and screen adjustment
Post by: Wade on May 20, 2004, 09:24:23 am
Is it safe to adjust these two flyback pots while the monitor is on?  I think I've done it while on before but I can't remember.  I just want to be sure, since I've had so many monitor problems.  I don't want to break one of them and one of my VR EGA monitors needs a slight adjustment.

yep, just don't get too overzealous with them or you could drive the monitor past its safe limits--with a new monitor, there's not a lot of risk but as they get older they are not as tolerant to drastic change (kind of like old-people ;D)

Yes you can certainly adjust them with the power on. You can turn the focus control all the way through it's range without hurting anything. Don't turn the screen control all the way to the right (maximum brightness) as you can damage the picture tube. Generally you can consider the screen control as a coarse brightness control and it usually only needs turning plus or minus an eighth of a turn.
