Well now that I have my ps2 and dc
I want to wire them to my controls. Here is the problem (potentially) I'm using the hagstrom encoder and I'm not sure how what would be the best way to connect the controls and then switch between them.

maybe I should be more clear. I am aware of the switch box, however I'm not sure it is feesible for what I want.

Yeah, this is discussed here alot and you'll find lots of info on it. There's several good web tutorials on the subject.
I went the simplest way. The CP disconnects from the encoder and then reconnects to the DC. You just reach in and disconnect/reconnect. I didn't bother with a switch or anything fancy. you just need to decide on some sort of universal interface for the CP to connect with (e.g., a DB25 or Molex connectors or whatever) and then wire consistantly.
Have fun!

but will that work with the hagstrom endcoder? I hadn't seen one done with it yet.
-
It will work with *any* encoder. All you are doing is switching the wires from the buttons to the encoder.

just to clarify what everyone else is saying, the break in the cabling (bd25 or molex or whatever) comes before the encoder so it goes:
...............................>ps2
controls>connector>encoder
...............................>dc
hope that helps

right the only reason i had concern was because of the breakout boards on the hagstrom encoder, but if you guys say it works then it does.
