All of a sudden my IPAC started working intermittently...mostly not at all. I unplugged the usb, reconnected and it worked for about 1 minute. I went into windows, did it again, and windows XP is now saying "USB Device Not Recognized"
Anyone have any ideas what's going on? Is my IPAC dying on me? :'(

First thing I would check is for any loose wires or something that may grounding out on the I-PAC. Perhaps there may be a broken wire in the USB-keyboard cable connecting the I-PAC to your PC, too. Any sharp bends in the cable the way you have it routed in your cab? A quick email to Andy should get you fixed up, in case you need a replacement board or cable.

Ok, the IPAC is fine it seems (so far) but my OptiPac is messed up. I was having problems with it before, and then my ipac stopped working, so i unplugged the optipac from it completely and the ipac seems fine. So, now I need to find out whats going on with my optipac.
I will check all wires, etc and then if it doesnt work, contact Andy. I only have used the optipac like a total of 2 hours max! so, i dunno wth. ???
Thanks for the reply there oscar. :D

I had the same problem. Man it sucks too, I would have friends come over and start playing then BAM no responce from the ipac. Heres what I did to remedy it. Since I was using an USB port also with XP also..
I got a USB/PS2 adaptor. I think they cost like $5 at most and I plugged my Ipac into the PS2 port instead of the USB. Since Ive done this Ive had no problems what so ever going on 2 months.
As far as the Opticpac I would plug it back in the usb and have the ipac in the PS2 port. Windows sucks so bad. Its prolly a confict with Drivers/USB port power/or whatever else microsoft can mustard up to screw up.
Try it...

well, i have a serial port optipac....so i dunno if that matters. the ipac is usb. seems to be ok, just the optipac is screwy. like, when i move the spinner, the mouse on screen wiggles just a hair, like it want to work, then it stops.

I tried both USBs9Ipac and Optipac at the same time) but my Ipac kept failing, thats when I got the PS2/USB adaptor for my Ipac. I have my Optipak plugged into usb and my mouse plugged into the PS2 with my IPAC plugged into the PS2 aswell. You might just try to change the configuration. Maybe its worth a shot.

I also have had problems with the usb connection of my ipac. I was using an older board and purchase one of the new ones and both of them had problems when connected usb. They both worked fine using ps2.
Problem I was experiencing was that when connected to the usb, the actual controls (buttons, joysticks, etc) would the wrong keyboard "control" to the computer. Strange thing though, I could use the keyboard to play the games (still hooked through the ipac) and it would work fine. Only messed up when using the buttons and joysticks. Talked with andy a number of times and we never did resolve it (fixed by going back to ps2).
Note: What I said sounded like maybe the ipac was the problem, but I don't think so now. Think it was probably the computer, usb driver, xp, ?????

Have the problem when I start the computer and then press a button twice the Ipac uninstalled and then reinstalled again.
With every start so. Later everything works normally ..?
What can it be ?
I Have the Win7 64bit and this is my 3 Ipac2 which I installed on my Pinball Machines
But the problem occurs for the first time ..?
In the system control, the Ipac is shown as a second keyboard..
but synonymous when I unplug the original keyboard and uninstall the USB
and only start the PC with the Ipac2
I have the same efekt after installation then a keyboard in the system control displayed
but as soon I press a Button again 2 Times the Ipac uninstalled and installed new..? ..?
The only difference is that this PC board, even when switched off, has power on the USB ports!
Can this be the problem ..?

After start and 2x press a button it installs 2x New and the green light flashes ... if it has done it works hours long until you restart the PC again then restart the same game ..?
In the system control it is cited as a keyboard not as I-Pac2 is the normal or gives it drivers for Win7 64bit ..?

It seems the original problem was concerned with a serial port Opti-PAC.
It really is time to move on if a serial-port Opti-PAC is being used. These are really old and serial ports, where they are still fitted, cannot keep up with the data sent by our current trackball or spinner.
Depending on the types of device connected, we have alternatives for USB connection instead of serial.
