I am just about to mount my ATX motherboad onto a sheet of plywood.
I have made some standoffs from a length of thin plastic tube that i got from Homebase. The standaoffs are about 2 cm long. I am going to use long wood screws to mount the motherboard through the standoffs.
normally when mounting a ATX MB in a PC case doesn't the screws make a connection to earth through the case?
The only thing is i am wondering if i need to wire the bare metal where the holes are on the motherboard to ground?

No, not really. I have mounted a lot of these in assorted ways and I have never bothered to do what you are describing. Anyway, i think if you look carefully at the mobo you will see that the screw holes are completely isolated from all the traces, and thus I don't think they are connected to anything.

yes you are correct!
hmm...just wondering why there is bare metal at the screw holes then?

So you don't accidentally strip the PCB of the mobo when you screw it in...if you screw it in too tight. (or so I think)

Yep, it is just there to protect the motherboard.

I just used (yesterday) some of the mounting brackets that ultimarc sells to mount the ipac to mount my motherboard. They work great but you'll need a couple of packages.

I got my pcb stands from Bob Roberts. They were good as well.
