Title: tekken 5
Post by: Rafe on May 13, 2004, 09:40:48 pm

most of the discussion here seems to focus on the construction of systems to run older games
,80's era. i was wondering if the newest of the new game board construction is also discussed
here. i'm very interested in constructing a system that runs the tekken 5 software and can
pipe it directly into a normal TV CRT,.

I think this requires the construction of a supergun or RGB-NTSC Converter. Has anybody
attempted constructing one of these for a more modern game ?

I tried that with t4 and regretted it. i don't mind spending the money and have a good bit of friends that play it so they will owe me if i'm successfull. i'll still get it for the xbox but just wanna construct one.

what i know at this time is i'll need:

1. system 246
2. tekken 5 disk
3. supergun
4. normal tv
5. two sticks and buttons ?

is that it?

what about this jamma cable, all it seems to be is a aggregate of cables ? is this a component of the supergun ?

You could pretty much just buy the full deal instead of putting together one.  Or you can construct a cab and slap an X-Box in there.

But I agree with Snaaake.  Arcade games now are translated to consoles with perfection (which, ironically, is one of many reasons the arcade is more or less dead)*.

*back in my day, I had to wait 12 years for an arcade perfect version of Marble Madness

Its a complicated process.I would wait for the xbox versiona and see how accurate it is compared to the real thing.

Its THE reason :(

i understand the economical reasons for waiting. i did that with t4 and reggretted it big time. it took 6 months for them to do the japanese version of t4, and 6 more months for the american version.

believe me if the game would come out in the arcade and console version at the same time, i wouldn't even consider this option. i'de buy the console.

Is that your own assumption, or can you confirm it we be released on the XBOX?

With the success Tekken has been to the Playstation, I can't imagine Sony letting it go the MS in any way or form.  Not to say it may happen... I'd just be amazed if so.

EDIT:  Damn, found out Heihachi dies in the intro/trailer of the game.... hmmm... time to retire from future tekken releases as that old dude rocked!   ;D

Namco confirmed about Xbox version. However,no one really knows for sure. They will show footage on E3 this year.I don't think they will release arcade and console version at the same time though. So yeah you gotta wait or invest on the real thing.

Well it's gonna be a bit before Tekken 5 comes out anyways.  I was at E3 this afternoon and they didn't even have a playable version of Tekken 5 that I saw.  As a matter of fact they didn't even have it on any screens. All they had was some poster artwork for it that I saw.  So anyways, my point is that you have some time before Tekken 5 comes out.

btw, straightup the sweetest thing I saw at the entire show was the new PSP.... it was unbelievable.

The PSP will rock what did ya think of the Gameboy DS?

They did not have a visible DS system on the floor anywhere.  No videos, playable systems, or mockups or demos or anything.  I have only seen the picture or two that were released with recent press releases in the days leading up to the expo.  Honesty I was hoping for more from Nintendo. It looks... big and clunky unfortunately :(  I think the PSP is gonna blow it off the map.  I thought the PSP looked very cool and slick in the pictures, but once I got up close to it and got to hold it in my hands, it is pretty much the sexiest piece of gaming hardware out there.  The screen quality and sharpness is unreal.

A supergun/TV setup costs more money than simply buying a used cabinet and converting it to the game you want.

Yes, but then Namco saw what fighting game sluts we all are when it came to Soul Calibur 2, when people were buying the game three times just to get all three extra characters.  It doesn't take a marketing genius to see what a great cash cow a release format like that would be for Tekken 5.  Then when you do your greatest hits/platinum collection release, you put all of the special characters in all versions and watch people gobble them up again.

Yep, he's as dead as Kazuya...

I wasn't referring to Devil-Ogre-Heihachi that I'm sure namco will squeeze into the story line... :D

Hopefully Kaz has picked up on some of his pop's hell sweep madness....

a super gun is basically an arcad powersuplly, a jamma harness and something to convert the arcade signal to tv signal, which is the epensive part. just buy a jamma arcade cab, and all the baordsa nd whatnot for your game and modify a generic jamma cab to look like you want. that will be way cheaper than buildng a supergun

However, it is coming out for the ps2.  It rocks by the way....I think it is much better than the mess of tekken 4 (I liked tekken 3 better than 4).  I was actually playing some tonight at pinball pete's.  I hope they can do some tricks for the ps2 to make look and play as good as the arcades.  The current release date is in the middle of March.  It used to be Feb, but got pushed back.  I hope it does not get delayed again.

Ya I pretty much agree

but it should look 99.9% on PS2 so it's goin in my cabinet :D
It also comes with arcade-Tekken 1 2 and 3
an Adventure mode
console-exclusive characters
and of course customizations.

I love having a card at the arcade. I'm 3rd Kyu and 27-8 I think. My Asuka is named Punani
