Title: Outwater vs t-molding.com (plus Aussies wanting moulding look here)
Post by: Blakey on May 13, 2004, 09:19:57 pm
For those of you who have dealt with both Outwater and t-molding.com, has there been any issues with either?

I'm looking to get around 35' of chrome moulding, but am not sure if outwater's silver (http://208.245.181.35/cgi-bin/worderc?category=drop&cat1=105-679&cat2=679-363&dcat=PTEE) is the same as t-molding's chrome (http://www.t-molding.com/cart/customer/home.php?cat=19) even though they have the exact same dimensions.

Outwater is also significantly cheaper, at $0.21/ft vs $0.75/ft for silver vs chrome.

If the silver's a no go, has anyone tried the brushed or polished metallic (http://208.245.181.35/cgi-bin/worderc?category=drop&cat1=PMTEE34&cat2=na&dcat=PMTEE) chrome? At $0.50/ft it's still cheaper than t-moldings chrome, and has the advantage of brushed or polished look.

There is a minimum order of $25, so I can get 36' of silver and 36' of chrome to just exceed it and then choose the best one to use, but I don't know which is better, polished or brushed. I will be making my control panels out of brushed stainless, so I'm leaning towards brushed look, but it's hard to tell without seeing a picture of it.

T-molding only lets you order in 20' lots, so I'd have to order 40', and shipping to Oz for that is 23.50 on top of the $30 for the moulding. US shipping for the same amount is $7.40, can anyone give me rough shipping estimates for 30-70' of moulding from Outwater to Oz? I've emailed asking, but haven't heard back yet.

Finally, any Aussies want some moulding and want to split the shipping?

Both T-Molding.com and Arcadeshop buy their t-molding from Outwater so you don't need to worry about it being different.

Ok, so can anyone confirm if outwaters silver 3/4 = t-molding's chrome 3/4?

Haven't heard back from outwater yet, perhaps I'll just order both types from them and pick the best one when it gets here. (Almost have to anyway to meet minimum order)

I checked out Outwater's web page at the silver and chrome in 5/8 and 3/4".  It states the minimum order is 250 feet.  Also you may want to consider that the metallic sizing is not a true 5/8 or 3/4".  You could have some wood showing if the molding is to narrow and I don't think you can trim the metallic moldings if it is too fat.  If you buy the silver post a picture.

Oh, they have brushed chrome. I want that!

I have the 3/4" polished chrome t-molding (from t-molding.com) already and it's actually .77" wide when applied.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that. At one point it said min order 250ft, at another it said $25. Still haven't had an email from them, guess I'm small fry.

t-molding's chrome is clear with a chrome layer, then a top clear layer, so it can't be trimmed. My timber is 18.6mm wide, that leaves 0.5mm overhang on each side, not unacceptable.

For all you other aussie's out there you can get t-moulding from Galvin's Hardware in Western Australia and South Australia. A friend of mine bought some a while back and it was about $2.50 a metre...

There web site is:
