Title: Is this place for real? Windows XP Pro for $60???
Post by: JoyMonkey on May 13, 2004, 11:08:20 am
I just got an email/spam from this place:

http://xbvwgjbijblar.fosraw.biz/OE017/?affiliate_id=233732&campaign_id=21005

I've never seen OEM prices so low. Think this is legit? I could do with some new software, but I don't want to be buying pirated stuff or give my money to some kid that won't deliver the goods.
The URL is very strange too.

Edit: I just read this in their FAQ, it says you can't register the software with the manufacturer ????

What do I get when I order something from you?
You get the CD(s) with the software in an envelope. You also get the activation key, serial number or CD key necessary to activate the software. Note, that you will not be able to register the software with the manufacturer and get technical support.

Where does this software come from ?
The software is shipped from Eastern Europe.

Sounds shady to me. When I was a student at Univ. of Texas they had a licensing  agreement with microsoft so I got XP for $6. It only came with the CD and the product key but it WAS official because you could regiter the software. Befriend a student, a lot of universities have similar agreements.  ;)

Whether it's legit or not, you should never buy anything advertised in spam.

The only reason spam is such a nuisance is because there are always people who respond to it (and because it's so cheap to send to everyone).  Just junk it.

As for if it's legit - I seriously doubt it.  If you buy software legally you are entitled to register it and get technical support.
